  • Patent number: 4911032
Abstract: A modified gear operates in one direction only. The modified gear can be driven in either direction by a standard gear, but will drive another gear in only one direction. Every other tooth of the modified gear is partly cut away to form a step. The remaining sides are cut away to delay engagement with a driven gear. The sides of the teeth preferably have the shape of an involute curve, and each tooth is preferably cut along a line segment beginning at the midpoint of the top land of the tooth, and continuing along a path generally parallel to one side of the tooth. The step is located at a predetermined radial distance from the top land, this distance being a certain fraction of the total depth of the tooth. The modified gear can be used to drive, or be driven by, a conventional unmodified gear. It can also drive, or be driven by, another gear which has been modified in the manner described above.

  • Patent number: 4909093
Abstract: This invention relates to a friction drive mechanism for a motorized sliding door. The door is suspended by a first rail and its movement guided by a third rail. A second rail is flexibly coupled to the first and biased against a motorized driving roller by a simple tensioning mechanism. The tensioning mechanism maintains the friction contact between the driving roller and the second rail. The flexible coupling joining the first and second rails compensates for any misalignment in the mounting of the componentry. The flexible mounting also allows for the door to be driven around curves.

  • Patent number: 4905532
Abstract: A power transmitting apparatus is comprised of an electrically operated motor having a shaft which is rotatable in one or the other direction, a worm-gear provided at an outer periphery thereof with a geared portion at which an angle of load is established at a set value so as to be larger than an angle of friction and fixedly mounted on the shaft of the motor, a worm-wheel provided at an outer periphery thereof with a geared portion which is in mesh engagement with the geared portion of the worm-gear, and a lever operatively connected to the worm-wheel for transmitting the rotational torque therefrom to a driven member. Since an angle of load is set so as to be larger than an angle of friction in the worm-gear, the rotational torque may be transmitted between the worm-gear and the worm-wheel. So, flexibility in mechanical design is increased.

  • Patent number: 4899605
Abstract: In a starter having a planet gear speed reducer in which the front frame is secured to the end face of the motor with penetrating bolts, a cylindrical packing with ears is mounted on an internal gear with the penetrating bolts inserted into the ears so that, when the penetrating bolts are tightened, the ears of the packing are inscribed in the front frame, while sealingly holding the penetrating bolts, and the packing is compressed between the end face of the motor and the flange of the internal gear, thus eliminating the difficulty that water flows down the penetrating bolts into the motor.

  • Patent number: 4884670
Abstract: A variable compliance device having a tool plate attached between a tool and a robot arm to allow limited movement of the tool plate relative to the robot arm. A concave bill seat connected to the tool plate and a pin having a concave surface house a bearing ball. An inflatable diaphragm exerts a force on a piston toward the pins to force the pins against the bearing balls. Movement of the tool plate relative to the robot arm causes the pins to move relative to the robot arm. The force of the diaphragm on the pins resists movement of the tool plate relative to the robot arm, and restores the tool plate to its original position after the outside force is removed. If the pins are moved beyond a selected point, a sensor senses the movement and sends a signal to shut down the robot.
