Abstract: A method for selecting and configuring a network resource, out of a plurality of network resources, for use with a computer system client. The method includes the step of determining what network resources reside within a network. The respective attributes of the network resources are then assessed. A determination is then made as to which of the network resources best corresponds to a desired attribute. Configuration software for the best corresponding network resource is then installed on the client and the best corresponding network resource is prepared for use by the client. The installation of configuration software can include installing a driver for the best corresponding network resource. A map showing a location of the best corresponding network resource with respect to the client can be accessed. The determination of which of the network resources best corresponds to the desired attribute can be dynamically updated as a location of the client changes.

Abstract: A method for optimally monitoring a set of data elements for an event. The method includes determining a set of data elements, each of which further comprises a state. An event is commonly a change in this state. The method further includes creating a rule for monitoring the event, wherein the rule comprises an event identification portion resident on a first computer and an action portion resident on a second computer. The method also includes monitoring the set of data elements for the event based, in part, on the event identification portion, and determining if the event has occurred. If so, the method further includes sending the set of data elements to the second computer. The method also includes executing a set of actions, based in part, on the action portion. Thereafter, the method further includes monitoring the set of data elements based, in part, on the rule.

Abstract: A hypertext displaying apparatus is provided. When a link destination indicated in stored data is designated, a processing section instructs a transmission/reception section to download hypertext data at the link destination, and instructs a history storage section to register an identifier of the currently-displayed stored data. If a user gives a “previous content” instruction, the processing section reads from a stored information storage section the stored data corresponding to the identifier registered in the history information storage section, so that the stored data is displayed on a screen.

Abstract: The present invention includes a method and system for determining link weights that when utilized will optimize the performance of a network in the event of a link failure without the need to alter the link weights. The method includes determining two sets of links, one that includes links with a significant amount of loading and one that includes links with a modest amount of loading. A set of permissible solutions is generated utilizing one randomly chosen link from each set. After omitting recent best permissible solutions, the remaining permissible solutions are evaluated by analyzing for the complete network topology and for the topologies corresponding to all single-link failure states and the best permissible solution is found. If the best permissible solution is better than the current optimal solution, then the best permissible solution is made the optimal solution. These steps are repeated until a predetermined number of iterations have been evaluated without a change in the optimal solution.

Abstract: The use of a visual indicia or cue facilitates computer based access of a network by a consumer witnessing a presentation. A visual indicia or cue is provided during the presentation indicative of a relationship between the visual indicia or cue in the presence of a location on a network. This allows this location on the network to be accessed by a computer having an appropriate input device for responding to a released control signal associated with the visual indicia or cue wherein such response of the input device will connect the computer to the location.

A request is received for a voice application based upon a user requesting a telephony service. The request includes search criteria for selecting a voice application from the database. The location data of at least one voice application (whose stored voice application information substantially satisfies the search criteria) is retrieved from the database. The voice application located at the retrieved location data is used to perform the user-requested telephony service.

Abstract: In one aspect the invention relates to a method for generating a graphical display for a remote terminal session. The method includes monitoring output produced by an application program executing on a server, identifying a bitmap representation within the output produced by the application program and determining a check value for the bitmap representation. The method also includes retrieving a compressed data format of the bitmap representation based at least in part on the check value and transmitting to the remote terminal session the compressed data format in place of the bitmap representation.

Abstract: The present invention is a process of creating durable Uniform Resource Locator links to results of performing web-enabled functions. The web-enabled functions are performed using a system delivered user interface requiring users to authenticate within the system. After authentication, the user will be able to perform a first user function that will create Uniform Resource Locator link results derived from the first user function. The user will then be able to conduct successive users functions, either dependent or independent of the first user function results without having to re-authenticate. The successive user function will then create durable Uniform Resource Locator link results derived from the successive user function without altering the previously created Uniform Resource Locator links to previous user function results.

Abstract: An end-user or administrator is allowed to couple portlets in a portal through user interface events taking place on the portal display itself. When the portal is displayed, if the user actuates a control corresponding to a property in a portlet, a menu of actions that can be performed with that data by other portlets is provided to the user. In addition to this “conventional” manner, an alternative manner of actuating the component is provided to the user such that if the user actuates the control in this alternative manner, the user is provided the option of making the chosen action “persistent,” so that the next time the control is actuated by the user, or the associated property is otherwise produced, the chosen action is performed automatically, without requiring the user to choose an action.

Abstract: Methods and systems for reliably exchanging a message among collaborating applications are disclosed. The methods and systems utilize a central exchange infrastructure (XI) for executing collaborative business processes among heterogeneous applications. Reliable message transmission is guaranteed by an Exactly Once Protocol (EOP), in which a database associated with the messaging and transport layer (MTL) of an HTTP-compliant server is used for storing a message identifier and comparing the message identifier to previously received message identifiers. If there is no match, the XI facilitates an exchange of message content of application data from a sending application to a receiving application.

Abstract: A multimedia system and method that provides easy universal text searching for non-technical users, is disclosed. A configuration of the multimedia system and method of the present invention also facilitates content delivery through multiple, independent, simultaneous feeds from a single source to two or more different destinations without impairing audio and/or video and/or data stream quality.

Abstract: The present invention provides for a method and apparatus for using the complete resource capacity of a synchronous digital hierarchy infrastructure, with a protection system, in the presence of a data (packet) network, in which the complete SDH/SONET protection (spare) capacity is used to carry data traffic in both normal and failure conditions. In case of failure the working capacity is cut, and the TDM traffic is subject to a protection mechanism and is shifted over the protection capacity; the part of high (and medium) priority data traffic is shifted over the protection capacity; a part of the data low-priority extra-traffic (transported over the protection capacity in normal conditions) will share the remaining protection capacity with the low-priority best-effort part of the data traffic transported over the working capacity.
