  • Patent number: 11090711
Abstract: A method of freeze-drying comprising rapidly freezing either liquid or supercritical carbon dioxide in and around a material having pores at a rate of at least 0.2° C./min to limit the size of crystals formed from the carbon dioxide so as to avoid the formation of gas bubbles and damage to the pores and exposure of the material to gas-liquid interfaces. During freezing a solid layer primarily of solid carbon dioxide is formed on and surrounding the material by transferring heat with a cryogenic liquid circulating about the material. This solid layer protects the material from gas-liquid interfaces and surface tension before decreasing pressure about the material by venting carbon dioxide.

  • Patent number: 11060722
Abstract: A tip burner for a flare comprises a diffuser (7) which is sealingly connected downstream to a shroud (9) comprising a tightly packed bed of granular material (13). The stream of fuel and oxidizer flows to a diffuser where is mixed and tangentially swirled by a swirler (8) located either in the diffuser or in a closed proximity to the diffuser inlet. The mixture flows next to the shroud where the granular material provides a tortious flow path for the stream, restructuring it aerodynamically and reducing its velocity, preferably to sub sonic level. A combustible mixture exits the shroud as multiple of jet, at low velocity and low turbulence. The mixture is ignited by a pilot burner installed above but in close proximity of the shroud, resulting in a stable flame which generates a low noise level.

  • Patent number: 11041619
Abstract: The present invention is a combustion strategy using a swirl burner tip, which is one of stoichiometric mixture of reactants (2H2+O2?2H2O) with added high quality dry steam (H2O (g)) as a thermal diluent. The amount of dry steam can be determined by the safety requirements of the reactants and the desired temperature of post-flame gases. It can be appreciated that the design of the swirl burner tip is for safe handling of the reactants, and for rapid and thorough mixing of the reactants so combustion occurs in a nearly premixed configuration exterior of the swirl burner tip. The H2/O2 ratio is fixed to consume all H2 and O2 (stoichiometric), with dry steam (H2O (g)) strategically added to the reactants. The burner tip is configured to create counter swirling reactant flows separate from each other.
