Abstract: Provided are a pedestrian-crossing marking detecting method and a pedestrian-crossing marking detecting device, wherein the existence of pedestrian crossing markings and the positions thereof can be detected accurately from within a picked up image, even when detection of the intensity edges of painted sections is difficult. In the pedestrian-crossing mark detecting device (100), a road-surface distance of a predetermined range is calculated with respect to image data picked up from the periphery of the vehicle including the road, using camera installation information or a stereo camera's distance information, and the period of the pedestrian crossing markings is calculated on the basis of the road-surface distance of the predetermined range, and furthermore, a power of frequency is calculated using an even function and odd function of a square wave of the period as the basis function.

  • Patent number: 8744141
Abstract: In general, one aspect of the subject matter described can be embodied in methods that include obtaining one or more image regions from a first image of an eye. Each of the image regions may include a view of a respective portion of the white of the eye. The method may further include applying several distinct filters to each of the image regions to generate a plurality of respective descriptors for the region. The several distinct filters may include convolutional filters that are each configured to describe one or more aspects of an eye vasculature and in combination describe a visible eye vasculature in a feature space. A match score may be determined based on the generated descriptors and based on one or more descriptors associated with a second image of eye vasculature.

  • Patent number: 8744119
Abstract: A computer alters at least one recognizable metric or text in a digitally-encoded photographic image by operating an alteration algorithm in response to user input data while preserving an overall aesthetic quality of the image and obscuring an identity of at least one individual or geographic location appearing in the image. An altered digitally-encoded photographic image prepared by the altering of the at least one recognizable metric or text in the image is stored in a computer memory. User feedback and/or automatic analysis may be performed to define parameter values of the alteration algorithm such that the alteration process achieves preservation of aesthetic qualities while obscuring an identity of interest.

  • Patent number: 8737697
Abstract: Facial feature point reliability generating means generates a reliability map of each facial feature point from a facial image. Initial facial feature point position calculating means calculates the position of each facial feature point in the facial image based on the reliability map. Off-position facial feature point judgment means judges whether or not each facial feature point is an off-position facial feature point not satisfying a prescribed condition. Facial feature point difference calculating means calculates the difference between the position of each facial feature point, excluding those judged as the off-position facial feature points, and the position of a corresponding point of the facial feature point. Facial feature point position correcting means corrects the determined positions of the facial feature points based on the results of the judgment by the off-position facial feature point judgment means and the calculation by the facial feature point difference calculating means.

  • Patent number: 8737714
Abstract: A portion of imagery data is obtained from a digital slide and a protocol of image analysis/diagnostic tasks is performed on the portion of imagery data by a pathologist or an image analysis module. The result of each task (e.g., success or no success) is recorded and a score is determined for the portion of the imagery data. Multiple portions of imagery data from the digital slide are analyzed and scored and the various scores from the multiple portions of imagery data are calculated to determine an overall score for the digital slide. Regions of the digital slide can be scored separately. Multiple rounds of scoring (by different pathologists and/or different image analysis algorithms) may be employed to increase the accuracy of the score for a digital slide or region thereof.

  • Patent number: 8718409
Abstract: In verification of image data of a captured image as to whether it is original one, the verification is possible even for image data subjected to a peripheral illumination correction or an exposure correction. An order information calculation unit selects a pixel set including two or more pixels based on pixel values and information on an image space of image data of a captured image, and calculates an order of magnitude between pixels in the selected pixel set. A verification data producing unit generates verification data used in verification of whether the image data has not been tampered with, based on the calculated order of magnitude. An image output unit outputs the image data and the verification data.

  • Patent number: 8712109
Abstract: Representing a face by jointly quantizing features and spatial location to perform implicit elastic matching between features. A plurality of the features are extracted from a face image and expanded with a corresponding spatial location in the face image. Each of the expanded features is quantized based on one or more randomized decision trees. A histogram of the quantized features is calculated to represent the face image. The histogram is compared to histograms of other face images to identify a match, or to calculate a distance metric representative of a difference between faces.

  • Patent number: 8712190
Abstract: Provided are a collating device, a processing method and a collation program, in which a reference line is extracted from an image and each partial image is moved in a manner that the reference line becomes a predetermined one thereby to correct the image, and in which the corrected image is collated so that an authentication result can be obtained for a short time period without any rotating operation. At first, a reference line extracting unit extracts the center line or the contour line of the image as the reference line. Next, an image correcting unit moves each partial image in parallel thereby to correct the image so that the reference line obtained by the reference line extracting unit becomes a predetermined one. Moreover, an image collating unit collates the image corrected by the image correcting unit and a predetermined image to acquire an authentication result.

  • Patent number: 8705805
Abstract: A portable token and systems and methods for identification and authentication of the same are disclosed. The portable token may be utilized for a variety of purposes and uses a thin section of rock as a unique identifying element, which is extremely resistant to forgery or duplication. Identification and authorization of tokens is achieved by a system that uses optical examination of the microstructure and the refractive properties of crystalline minerals within the identifying element, by transmitted polarized light techniques. Comparison between stored reference data and acquired examination data is the basis for verifying authenticity. The naturally-occurring three-dimensional orientations of the optical axes of mineral crystals contribute to the identification information by their effects.
