  • Patent number: 7555975
Abstract: An infeed apparatus for a sheet material article trimmer includes a pusher element for moving a sheet material article to be trimmed on a front table of the trimmer and into engagement with a backstop of the front table. The pusher element is moved by a driver which moves the pusher element at the same speed as the front table for a period of time with the pusher element in engagement with a back edge portion of the sheet material article and the backstop in engagement with a front edge portion of the sheet material article. The period of time is at least as long as the time required for a front clamp of the sheet material article trimmer to grip the sheet material article against the front table. A method is also provided.

  • Patent number: 7464630
Abstract: An apparatus for generating and manipulating a high-pressure fluid jet includes an end effector assembly coupled to a manipulator that imparts motion to the end effector. The end effector assembly includes a cutting head coupled to a source of high-pressure fluid and to a source of abrasive. A motion assembly is coupled to the cutting head via a clamp positioned around the cutting head. A nozzle body assembly is removably coupled to the cutting head assembly, which may be separated from the cutting head assembly to allow access to the orifice, without removing the cutting head assembly from the clamp. The clamp has a quick release mechanism and an alignment member. The motion assembly includes two motors coupled together to form a gimbal wrist, each motor having a horizontal axis of rotation. The two axes of rotation are perpendicular to each other, but are not necessarily aligned with the manipulator's axes of motion.

  • Patent number: 7448532
Abstract: The present invention discloses a log sawing system comprising multiple cutting blades. The multiple cutting blades are positioned to cut laterally or perpendicular to the centerline of the log which is to be cut. The logs are transported into cutting position using some type of log positioner. The multiple cutting blades are rotatably mounted on an arm which is pivotally mounted on a shaft in groups, being driven by an electrical or like motor, all of which are mounted onto a platform positioned adjacent to the log to be cut. Hydraulic lifters are used to partially rotate the saw blades into the cutting position adjacent the log. Means utilizing a computer and lasers are provided to develop a log cutting solution to best utilize the logs.

  • Patent number: 7437824
Abstract: A reciprocating saw includes a locking mechanism for a shoe of the reciprocating saw. The mechanism includes a lever mounted on the saw body movable to a first position where the saw blade is clamped in place. It also includes a lock pin with a body, a reduced circumference section, and a pin shoulder adjacent the reduced circumference section. The pin has a locked position where the pin shoulder abuts the shoe shoulder whereby the pin locks the shoe in place and an unlocked position where the shoe shoulder may translate through the clearance defined by the reduced circumference section. The lever urges the pin toward the locked position when the lever is in the first position.

  • Patent number: 7437984
Abstract: A specimen slicing mechanism such as a microtome or an ultramicrotome in which a specimen is held by a specimen arm and is moved through a knife. The specimen arm is made of two segments which are secured to each other via a lockable hinge assembly. The lockable hinge assembly uses a hinge between the two segments as well as a locking mechanism. When locked, the two segments are in a fixed relationship which causes the specimen to be forced through the knife by the action of the motor. When the locking mechanism is unlocked, the segment of the specimen arm holding the specimen is able to rotate (“float”) around the hinge; thus allowing the specimen to be sliced by the knife as gravity pulls the segment downward.

  • Patent number: 7424963
Abstract: A wire frame plastic bag dispenser includes an angled lower bag roll support urging perforated, rolled plastic bags toward a bag roll restraining element attached to the frame. A constraining movement element prevents lateral movement of the bag roll. A perforation parter separates bags as they are pulled from the roll. The bags may be folded along at least one vertical axis to form a more compact bag roll and may have a chisel cut in the perforation to aid in separation by the perforation parter. The frame includes four corners each of approximately 90 degrees, has a C shape in a horizontal plane, and includes a dispensing end, a back end, and two sides. The lower bag roll support includes a proximal end attached to the back end and extends downwardly to a distal end. • Patent number: 7418784
Abstract: A utility knife has a blade cartridge that has front and rear blade compartments. Each compartment stores a plurality of blades. Fresh blades are disposed in the front compartment and are advanced one at a time out of the compartment by a carrier that is controlled by an actuator on the handle. When the active blade is to be replaced, it is moved by the carrier into the rear compartment, and a new blade may then be withdrawn from the front compartment into the operative position. The active blade when not in use is withdrawn into the front compartment. The cartridge is reversed when the one end of all the blades in the front compartment are used, placing what was the rear compartment at the front, and the unused end of each blade is advanced into the operative position and when used they are each moved to the rear compartment.

  • Patent number: 7421315
Abstract: A machine is disclosed having a detection subsystem adapted to detect contact between a person and a specified portion of the machine, and to distinguish that contact from contact with other materials. The detection subsystem imparts an electrical signal to a specified portion of the machine, and distinguishes that contact based on a predetermined frequency response of the electrical signal. A reaction subsystem then causes a predetermined action to take place. The machine may be a power saw designed to minimize injury in the event a person accidentally contacts the blade.

  • Patent number: 7402096
Abstract: A device for working of glass panes (1) has a support (5) for the glass panes (1) and a nozzle (2) from which a water jet emerges for cutting the glass panes (1). The nozzle (2) can be moved on a guide (8) parallel to the plane of the support (5). The tool (12) for working of the cut edges of the material plates (1) can likewise be moved on the guide (8) of the nozzle (2) and is preferably mounted on the same carriage (9) which can be moved on the guide (8), as the nozzle (2). This simplifies not only the technical structure of the device, but also shortens the working time, since the glass pane (1) need not be transported to another device for finishing. Moreover, essentially the same control program as for the water jet cutting can be used for finishing.
