  • Patent number: 5902362
Abstract: A system for treating a quantity of fluid from an associated fluid source which includes a variable volume device having an interior space, fluid communication apparatus connecting the interior space of the variable volume device to the associated fluid source, a treatment assembly communicating with an outlet of the variable volume device and apparatus biasing the variable volume device to have a smaller volume whereby the fluid is urged out of the variable volume device into the treatment assembly. In some cases the treatment assembly is a filter assembly which may include a coalescing filter. The apparatus biasing the variable volume device to have a smaller volume may be a weight on a part of the variable volume device. The system may further include apparatus biasing the variable volume device to slow the rate of increase in volume as the variable volume device approaches maximum volume.

  • Patent number: 5897771
Abstract: An apparatus for aerobic biological treatment of waste water is described, in which a great number of carrier members having a large surface area to which microorganisms adhere are movably set in a cylindrical reactor within a given range of height, and the carrier is horizontally moved substantially continuously so that a part of the carrier is cleaned with cleaning air. The partial cleaning system eliminates the disadvantages associated with intermittent cleaning of the whole carrier.

  • Patent number: 5897773
Abstract: Apparatus for skimming liquid from the surface of a body of liquid which includes a lighter liquid floating on a heavier liquid. The apparatus includes an upwardly opening container having a specific gravity which causes the container to float in the body of liquid with an upper edge of the container in the vicinity of the interface between the lighter and heavier liquids. An elongated suction tube has a lower end extending down into the container. The upper end of the suction tube is connected to a source of suction so liquid is withdrawn from the container through the tube.

  • Patent number: 5895670
Abstract: A two-platen injection molding machine without tie bars has a platen fixed relative to the machine frame and a platen that moves relative to it, a traverse mechanism that operates the movable platen, a device for generating clamping force and a device to compensate for the deformation forces occurring during generation of the clamping force. The traverse mechanism and the device for generating clamping force are decoupled. Preferably, the device for generating clamping force has at least one connecting rod that passes through both the fixed and movable platens beneath the mold space. The connecting rod is detachably fastened to one of the platens and can be locked to the other platen by means of a clamping device that produces the clamping force. The device to compensate for the deformation forces includes at least one rigid spacer detachably fastened at one end to one platen, while the other end of the spacer is forced against the other platen.

  • Patent number: 5895510
Abstract: In an air filter assembly a non-metallic air filter media is clamped between a pair of opposed metal end flanges, one of which is mounted by a threaded mounting rod in alignment with an opening through a horizontal panel. A metal sleeve integral with one of the end flanges stiffens the assembly and prevents the filter media from collapsing. The air filter assembly is used with numerous similar air filter assemblies to filter inlet combustion air for large gas turbine engines.

  • Patent number: 5893939
Abstract: An air purifier, an air filter and a method of manufacturing an air filter for an air purifier are provided. The air purifier includes a base assembly, a filter assembly and a grill. A fan is mounted to the base assembly, and draws air through the filter assembly. The base and filter assemblies include adjoining walls having openings which are substantially smaller in area than the areas of the adjoining walls and area through which air is drawn in through the filter assembly. A resilient gasket having a passage approximately the size of these openings is positioned between the adjoining walls. The filter assembly is drawn towards the base assembly when the fan is operated, thereby enhancing the seal formed by the gasket against the adjoining walls. Unfiltered air is accordingly unlikely to bypass the filter assembly. The air filter is manufactured in an efficient manner through the use of a back plate having oblique end portions.
