  • Patent number: 8489452
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing a loyalty and rewards system that implements a user incentive program using smart card technology are provided. A loyalty system allows a user to systematically search, identify, store, and redeem electronic coupons and rebates associated with products from a large number of providers and manufactures. The loyalty system also integrates the activities associated with the user incentive program (e.g., coupon collection, storage, and redemption, etc.), with existing payment methods (e.g., charging a credit card, etc.) using smart card technology. Thus, the loyalty system allows the user to obtain savings and otherwise participate in the user incentive program without adding time consuming and tedious processing that is normally associated with coupon and rebate programs.

  • Patent number: 7761327
Abstract: A system may confirm that advertising was played as originally intended. For example, in one embodiment, a system may determine that an advertisement was played as originally intended and in return, a credit may be provided to the user. This credit may be the ability to play content that the user wishes to play or the credit may be in the form of rewards that are provided to the user, as another example. Thus, the system determines whether the advertisements are played correctly, for example, by detecting watermarks encoded within the advertising, and in return, provides indications that reward the user for playing the advertisement as intended.

  • Patent number: 7747465
Abstract: The method and system of the present invention enables Internet businesses to conduct real-time, online experiments on a sample of transactions to determine marketplace sensitivities. Analysis of the results of the experiments reveal optimal values of key market decision variables such as price, content of banner ads, promotion levels, quantity discount schemes, etc. The experiments may be automatically conducted on an on-going basis, or may be conducted on a periodic basis. The method and system of the present invention preferably allow users to modify the nature of the experiment and the propagation of optimal values. The method and system of the current invention can be used for a pure diagnostic purpose or to automate the setting of key market variables. The dynamic experimentation used by the inventive system reveals the relative stability (or instability) of the networked market within which the business operates.

  • Patent number: 7702536
Abstract: A method is provided for using referral data to track software product sell-through and compensate software product distributors. A referral identifier (ID), that identifies a product distributor, is associated with a product. The referral ID may be placed on or within the product container, or in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) case, directly written to the registry or other storage of a new computer. During product activation, the referral ID is sent, along with other referral data, to a server computer where it is stored. Once the server computer determines that a purchase related to the product has occurred, the server retrieves the referral data to identify the referring product distributor, the product involved, the date the product was activated, the date the related purchase was activated, and other related parameters. The referral data may then be audited and used to determine compensation for the identified product distributor.

  • Patent number: 7430543
Abstract: A method for enforcing a contract for a computer-aided-design (CAD) tool is provided. In this method, a first payment for the CAD tool is made in accordance with the contract. The first payment is associated with user access to the CAD tool. At this point, the CAD tool can be used, wherein the computer system running the CAD tool includes criteria for requesting at least one additional payment for the CAD tool. Each additional payment is associated with generating an output. The computer system is responsive to one or more trigger conditions corresponding to the criteria. A payment request is received when an output generated by the CAD tool satisfies a trigger condition. For example, one trigger condition adds a watermark to the output for identifying the output as having been produced by the CAD tool.

  • Patent number: 6778967
Abstract: A system and method of cross-selling products and increasing fuel sales at a fuel service station. A price-per-unit (PPU) discount for fuel is associated with a purchase of a non-fuel product. A display screen at the dispenser then informs the customer of the PPU discount and that a future purchase of fuel can be currently made at today's price, or may be purchased over the Internet at a later time. The system determines whether the customer ordered a non-fuel product or future fuel, and records the customer's orders. The system then accepts the customer's payment for the non-fuel product and the future fuel, and discounts the PPU of the fuel by the amount associated with the purchase of the non-fuel product during a current fuel purchase by the customer.
