  • Patent number: 8922717
Abstract: As information to be processed at an object-based video or audio-visual (AV) terminal, an object-oriented bitstream includes objects, composition information, and scene demarcation information. Such bitstream structure allows on-line editing, e.g. cut and paste, insertion/deletion, grouping, and special effects. In the interest of ease of editing, AV objects and their composition information are transmitted or accessed on separate logical channels (LCs). Objects which have a lifetime in the decoder beyond their initial presentation time are cached for reuse until a selected expiration time. The system includes a de-multiplexer, a controller which controls the operation of the AV terminal, input buffers, AV objects decoders, buffers for decoded data, a composer, a display, and an object cache.

  • Patent number: 8908094
Abstract: A TV receiver is activated at the time of a transition to a standby condition of a mobile terminal (100) with the TV receiver, data on a standby screen saved beforehand is synthesized with data on a predetermined image, and the synthesized image is displayed. Thereafter, the predetermined image in the synthesized image is switched to, at a predetermined timing, a real-time TV image received by the TV receiver and the real-time TV image is displayed. Accordingly, an image is displayed on the standby screen even in a blank period that a TV image cannot be displayed well because of a preparation for displaying a TV image right after the transition to the standby condition, thereby promoting utilization of a TV broadcasting through the mobile terminal.

  • Patent number: 8878995
Abstract: An operation method of a display driver includes generating a count value by counting a period of a synchronization signal related to a synchronization packet received from a host, receiving a mode change command from the host, the mode change command indicating a change from a video mode transmitting first image data to a display by bypassing a frame memory to a command mode transmitting second image data to the display through the frame memory, and generating an internal synchronization signal having a period substantially equal to the period of the synchronization signal by using the count value based on the mode change command after a last pulse of the synchronization signal is generated. A time interval between the last pulse and a first pulse of the internal synchronization signal is equal to the period of the synchronization signal.

  • Patent number: 8879003
Abstract: Various implementations address distortion and quality measurements. Certain implementations relate to distortions resulting in a freeze-with-skip and/or a freeze-without-skip. In one implementation, a pause term provides an indication of distortion associated with a pause arising from not displaying one or more consecutive pictures that are not to be displayed. A motion term provides an indication of distortion associated with a related change in motion. A combined indicator is based on an addition of the pause term and the motion term. In another particular implementation, a first indicator indicates distortion across one or more types of distortive effects that results from not displaying a first set of pictures. A second indicator indicates corresponding distortion with respect to a second set of pictures. The first indicator and the second indicator are combined in a non-linear manner.

  • Patent number: 8872978
Abstract: Provided herein are methods and systems that provide automatic compensation for frequency attenuation of a video signal transmitted over a cable. In accordance with an embodiment, a system includes an equalizer and a compensation controller. The equalizer receives a video signal that was transmitted over a cable, provides compensation for frequency attenuation that occurred during the transmission over the cable, and outputs a compensated video signal. The compensation controller automatically adjusts the compensation provided by the equalizer based on comparisons of one or more portions of the compensated video signal to one or more reference voltage levels. One or more values indicative of one or more levels of compensation provided by the equalizer are stored in memory and/or registers for each time, of a plurality of times. A monitor monitors for changes in the cable and/or the video signal transmitted over the cable based on the stored values.

  • Patent number: 8804046
Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting chroma dropout errors in one or more fields associated with various video frames are provided. Pixels associated with a current field are divided into a set of pixel pairs. Co-occurrences matrices are calculated for previous and subsequent fields. A first pixel pair associated with the current field is selected. First and second set of entries are selected from the co-occurrence matrices corresponding to the previous and subsequent fields. The first pixel pair is searched in the first and second set of entries. An absence of the first pixel pair in the first and second set of entries satisfies a first criterion of chroma dropout error. Other criteria in addition to the first criterion are evaluated to label the first pixel pair as erroneous.
