  • Patent number: 5277684
Abstract: A multi-function exercise apparatus has a base frame including two vertical support members. An adjustable support means is secured to the frame and provides support for a user in a plurality of different upright and horizontal exercise positions. A lever arm is mounted to a fixed shaft extending from each of the two support members, and an elastic band biasing means cooperatively engages each lever arm and corresponding support member thereof so that each lever arm is adapted to have its forward or rearward rotational bias changed without requiring removal and relocation of the lever arm, the corresponding elastic bands, or the corresponding band support pins.

  • Patent number: 5277675
Abstract: Resilient exercise board comprising a generally planar platform having a laminated structure comprising a substantially rigid substrate and a pad of resilient material on one side of the substrate, and a plurality of resilient feet on the side of the substrate opposite the pad for supporting the platform in a predetermined position relative to a supporting surface. The resilient feet have upper sections affixed to the substrate and lower sections which can be swung between positions beside and beneath the upper sections to adjust the height of the feet and thereby position the platform in different planes relative to the supporting surface. The resilient pad is covered by a flexible cover having a skid resistant upper surface. In one embodiment, the platform has resilient reinforcing elements on the under side of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 5277681
Abstract: An exercise machine to stretch one or more muscle groups or joints of a body part, has at least one engagement member pivotally mounted on the frame to engage a body part associated with the muscle group or joint that is to be stretched and to position such part at a desired location. The engagement member is pivotally displaceable through a predetermined range of movement with respect to the frame. Movement in a first direction is effective to apply a stretching force to the associated muscle group. Movement of the engagement member in the first direction is done through a linear actuator. An angle indicator provides a readout of the position of said engagement member in the range. At any selected position in the range the engagement member can be blocked against movement in a direction opposite to the first direction and the force exerted by said body part upon the engagement member in the second direction is measured.

  • Patent number: 5267927
Abstract: An exercising device in the form of a shoe having a series of weighted sections adapted to be added or removed so as to selectively vary the weight of the shoe. The weighted sections have cooperating joinder elements which enable them to be nested longitudinally with respect to each other in a cantilevered fashion and then locked in place. A rounded heel section is provided to facilitate exercises comprising rocking movements of the foot. In an alternative embodiment, a cooperating platform shoe member is provided for attaching to the device so that ambulation is facilitated without requiring removal of the exercising device.

  • Patent number: 5267931
Abstract: A hand held contoured cervical alignment and abdominal exercise device that an individual cradles against the cervical spine when performing abdominal exercises. In use, it forces the individual to use the abdominal musculature correctly and prevents hyperflexion/hyperextension of the cervical spine and subsequent symptoms. The result is an increased efficiency in performing abdominal exercises while maintaining the bio-mechanical intergrity of the cervical spine.

  • Patent number: 5263908
Abstract: A multi-functional physical exercise apparatus includes a small hollow cylinder, a large hollow cylinder, a confining device and a coiled spring. The large hollow cylinder is sleeved movably on a normal position on the small hollow cylinder. The confining device confines the large hollow cylinder on the small hollow cylinder. The coiled spring is secured to one of the small and large hollow cylinders at one end thereof and is confined at a predetermined position in the other one of the small and large hollow cylinders at the other end of the coiled spring. Accordingly, in a case where the large hollow cylinder is rotated relative to the small hollow cylinder or is moved toward the outer end of the small hollow cylinder, releasing one of the small and large hollow cylinders causes the large hollow cylinder to return to the normal position on the small hollow cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5257619
Abstract: A device for applying manual external cardiac massage by periodic chest compression is designed for use in transport in ambulances, helicopters, etc. It is light in weight, easy to adjust and use without fatigue in confined quarters. A plate beneath the chest holds a vertical arm in position. A horizontal arm is pivotally connected to the vertical arm and has a handle at its free end. Both vertical and horizontal arm lengths are adjustable. A resilient chest pad slidably mounted below the horizontal arm is periodically forced against the chest of a supine patient by up-down operation of the handle. The chest pad may be removed and horizontal arm locked in vertical position to serve as a support for items such as intravenous fluids. The vertical arm may be unlocked and folded down to a storage position and for ease of loading and unloading a patient. In an alternative embodiment, the support plate is replaced by a clamp assembly that clamps the device to a support member of the patient support or stretcher.

  • Patent number: 5242380
Abstract: An orthopedic back harness is provided for alleviating muscle and back pains. The harness is comprised of a wide flexible belts having some degree of stiffness and substantial padding. The belt is fitted above the breast and under the arm pits of the user in such a manner that when connected to an elevated support, such as a ceiling, the weight of the user is borne by the belt and pads under the arms at the arm pit area. Padding sections on the belt provide a thickness such that the user can support upper portions of the arms on the belt to share the body load upon the back. A second belt may be fitted around the waist of the user and connected to the upper wide belt by flexible straps to share the weight load of the user. When the body of the user is fully supported by the aforementioned belts, strain and tension on the back and back muscles can be used to alleviate back and back muscle pains and soreness.
