  • Patent number: 6952171
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for controlling use of predetermined vehicle parking areas and/or transit in predetermined vehicle circulation areas. The system comprises a control unit in communication with a telephone network and a database, the database storing data including an electronic map of one or more of such areas. When the control unit receives a Short Message Services (SMS) message from a user, via the network, requesting access to one of the areas at a selected time, the message is com-pared to data in the database in order to assess whether or not to comply with the request. If it is determined that the request should be complied with, then the database is updated with an indication of an access reservation. The unit then sends the user an SMS message in response, either confirming the reservation or denying availability of access.

  • Patent number: 6107942
Abstract: A parking guidance and management system. The system provides graphical information regarding the relative availability of parking spaces within a parking garage or other large facility. The system relies on a video image sensing system wherein each space in the facility is monitored by a camera to determine whether or not it is occupied. A single camera may be used to determine the status of a plurality of spaces. The information is displayed at strategically located displays along the way to available spaces. The displays contain advertising messages adjacent to the information about space availability. Revenues generated by the sale of advertising can be used by the facility operator to defray the purchase and/or maintenance cost of the guidance and management system. The information obtained from the sensors at each parking space may be used to provide information to the manager of the facility regarding space utilization.

  • Patent number: 5900805
Abstract: A car alarm is provided for a vehicle. The alarm has a warning system having a sleep alert device with a touch sensor and a siren. When the system is switched ON the touch sensor must be touched within a first set time period. Otherwise the siren will be energized for a second set time period or until the touch sensor is touched. In a preferred embodiment the warning system also has a anti-theft device which is put in operation by turning the ignition switch to the OFF position. A programmed controller means is employed for controlling functions of the sleep alert device and the anti-theft device.

  • Patent number: 5646607
Abstract: A method is described with the aid of which messages can be transmitted from batteryless transponders to interrogation devices. The interrogation devices are equipped with a receiving section and a transmitting section and as a request to transmit the message stored therein as reaction to an interrogation command rendered effective in the interrogation device said devices transmit an HF interrogation pulse with predetermined carrier frequency and predetermined carrier duration. In the transponder this HF interrogation pulse is utilized to generate a supply voltage. Each interrogation device checks as reaction to an interrogation command whether its receiving section (14) is receiving a signal with the carrier frequency.

  • Patent number: 5635900
Abstract: An antitheft apparatus for an automotive vehicle comprises: a transponder (1) buried in an ignition key to store an ID number thereof; a transmit and receive unit (2) provided in an ignition key cylinder to receive the ID number of the ignition key inserted into the ignition key cylinder; and an immobilizer unit (3) for, in antitheft mode, collating the received ID number with a number of stored ID numbers, and outputting an engine start enable signal when the received ID number matches one of the stored ID numbers and an engine start disable signal when does not match. In particular, the immobilizer unit (3) releases an ID number register mode into the antitheft mode automatically, when the received ID number is read twice successively by the transmit/receive unit or when is the same as one of the already stored ID numbers. On the other hand, after any given number of ID numbers have been registered, the ID number register mode can be also released automatically.

  • Patent number: 5550908
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for providing interoperability between a first modem and a calling identity delivery on call waiting (CIDCW) service. According to an embodiment disclosed herein, a first modem is coupled to an alerting signal receiver and a communications re-establishment device. The alerting signal receiver receives an alerting signal generated in response to an incoming call from a third party line if the first modem is communicating with a second modem. The communications re-establishment device reestablishes communications between the first modem and the second modem after the alerting signal receiver receives an alerting signal. The first modem is equipped to receive the alerting signal and reestablish communications with the second modem independent of the specific capabilities of the second modem, so that these techniques can be utilized in conjunction with a second modem not constructed in accordance with the embodiments disclosed herein.
