Abstract: A patient fluid discharge monitoring method and apparatus includes at least one article configured to be worn by a patient, the article having absorbent material and a RF tag received adjacent the absorbent material. The RF tag is excited with an excitation signal and the response of the RF tag to the excitation signal is detected. The detected response of the RF tag is compared to a predetermined response. The RF tag has a first detected response when the absorbent material has no fluid therein and a second detected response when the absorbent material has fluid therein.
Abstract: A lighting system and method for broadcasting colored lights as emergency warning signals from a light source. A centralized continuous light source is coupled via a fiber optic transmission medium to an external display location such as a lens or the like located on a vehicle. The color and the relative intensity of each color is periodically modulated to alternate between at least two states such that the contrast between these alternating states is perceived by observers to be a flashing source of light with no off-time. The frequency and the duty cycle of the repetition rate of alternating between the states may be further controlled to better draw attention to the light source. In one embodiment, the external display locations include optical converters, each converter having multiple input facets and optically arranged to broadcast light received at its facets at predetermined vertical and horizontal output angles.

Abstract: A transponder detection system for detecting the presence at a detection area of a vehicle on which the transponder is mounted. Two antenna arrays are located on opposite sides of the detection area, and have their boresights directed to the detection area. For each array, a sum and difference signal of signals received from the transponder are measured. The sum channel signal is used to establish whether a transmission has occurred, and the difference channel signal is used to isolate any transponder that is at the detection area.
Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for transmitting calls generated by a first communication network over a second communication network to a third communication network wherein the first communication network operates in accordance with a first communication protocol which enables call services, the third communication network operates in accordance with a communication protocol which enables at least one of the call services enabled by the first communication protocol and the second communication network operates according to a second communication protocol different from the first.
