  • Patent number: 7234906
Abstract: A threaded insert for providing stronger threads to a parent material. The threaded insert includes a bushing portion having male threads on the external surface and female threads within an internal bore. The threaded insert also includes keys which lock the threaded insert into a threaded hole within the parent material. The keys are positioned within slots along the external surface of the bushing portion of the threaded insert. The slots include two substantially parallel walls which are substantially perpendicular to a bottom surface of the slots. A method for assembling the threaded insert reduces the tendency of the keys to be installed offset from the bottom surface of the slots.

  • Patent number: 7220091
Abstract: A fastening nut includes an operation member, a female threaded member, and a control device. The operation member is operable by an operator to rotate in a fastening direction and a loosening direction. The control device is coupled between the operation member and the female threaded member and includes a plurality of movable members, such as nut segments and wedge members, and a plurality of control members, such as rollers and balls. The movable members are arranged in a circumferential direction about the nut axis. Each movable member is movable between a first position and a second position. The first positions enables fastening of the female threaded member onto the male threaded member. The second position enables loosening of the female threaded member. The control members either prevent or allow the movement of each movable member from a first position to a second position.

  • Patent number: 7210886
Abstract: A fastener for fixing a curtain airbag to a body panel of an automobile comprises a screw grommet having a shank to be inserted into mounting holes of an airbag-anchor portion and a body panel, and a flange to press the airbag-anchor portion against the body panel. The flange has an opening and the shank has a shank hole continuous to the opening into which a tapping screw is driven. The shank has resilient fingers protruding outward from sides of the shank to engage edge regions of mounting holes in a temporary fixing state. The fingers are held in a permanent fixing state by screwing the tapping screw into the shank hole, preventing the fingers from being bent inward. The flange has an edge with an upstanding partition to allow a central region of the flange to be partitioned from a main body of the curtain airbag.

  • Patent number: 7198445
Abstract: A conical washer having a crush zone wherein the inner annular projection comprises a top and bottom elevation where the top elevation lies at an approximately 100 to 165 degree angle to the inner annular wall of the washer and the bottom elevation is substantially flush with the bottom surface of the washer. The inner annular projection forms a crush zone, which collapses and crushes when an attachment device passes through the washer and is tightened down by a user. The crush zone provides a tight engagement of fastener to the bearing surface, and one which eliminates looseness in the fastener upon thermal expansion of the metal of the elements.

  • Patent number: 7172380
Abstract: A wheel nut assembly includes a stud (1), a main wheel nut (4) mountable on threads (3) provided on the stud, and a retaining nut (6) engageable with threads (5) provided on the stud to prevent accidental loosening of the wheel nut (4). The threads of the wheel nut (4) and the threads for the retaining nut (6) are of opposite hand. A cap (11) is slidably mounted on the retaining nut (6) and biased into a first position by a spring (16). The cap (11) includes multi-hexagonal profiles (12, 14) for engaging hexagonal profiles (13, 15) provided on the retaining nut (6) and on the main wheel nut (4). Accordingly, in the first position, the retaining nut (6) and the main wheel nut (4) are rotationally locked to each other and because of the opposite hand of the respective threads it is not possible to remove the retaining nut. To release the retaining nut (6), the cap (11) is grasped and pulled to the limit permitted by the spring (16) to permit rotation of the retaining nut (6) and removal thereof.

  • Patent number: 7090451
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing hollow bodies such as nut elements to be fastened to components that usually consist of sheet metal. The invention especially relates to a method for producing hollow bodies with an at least substantially square or rectangular outline by cutting individual bodies from a profile in the form of a profile rod or a reel after respective holes have been punched into the profile, and optionally afterwards producing a threaded cylinder. The inventive method is further characterized in that before or after the punching of the profile a passage treatment is carried out in order to produce a cylindrical or annular projection, concentric to the punching or the intended punching, on the side of the profile facing the component by flow of material. The projection is optionally shaped to an annular punched section in an additional molding cycle. The invention further relates to various hollow bodies, assembly units and molds for producing said hollow bodies.

  • Patent number: 7090453
Abstract: A screw which can be more quickly screwed into a work piece and has better chip-exhausting effect. The screw has a rod body and higher thread and lower thread formed on the rod body. On a conic section of the screw, a cutting thread with another guide angle larger than the guide angle of the lower thread directly extends from the lower thread. Accordingly, the lower thread of the screw has better cuffing, drilling and chip-exhausting function. Alternatively, the screw can have single thread or double threads with equal height. On a predetermined section of the rod body of the screw, a cutting thread with changed guide angle is directly formed as a part of the thread to achieve better cutting, drilling and chip-exhausting function.
