Abstract: An application server may initialize network services asynchronously and/or on-demand. Some services may be initialized during startup of the application server, while initialization of other services may be delayed. The application server may report that the services are initialized before they are actually initialized and may be configured to receive client requests for non-initialized services. When a client request is received, the application server may delay processing the client request either until the requested service is initialized or until all services are initialized. The application server may hold a received client request in a network layer until the requested service, and possibly other services on which the requested service depends, is initialized able to process the client request. Delaying initialization of some application server network services may result in a faster startup or restart time for the application server.

Abstract: Provided are techniques for transferring data. It is determined whether an indicators map is to be associated with a source file that is being opened, wherein the indicators map indicates which source blocks of the source file have been updated since last being transferred to a target file. In response to determining that an indicators map is to be associated with the source file, it is determined whether the indicators map exists. In response to determining that the indicators map exists, it is determined whether the indicators map is to be trusted based on a last modified time and a last source file size stored in the indicators map and the source file. In response to determining that the indicators map is to be trusted, the indicators map is initialized. Then, in response to receiving a write for the source file, the indicators map is updated to indicate which portion of the source file has been modified.

Abstract: Provided is a method, system, and program for accessing calendar information of users in a database for presentation by a personal information manager. Scheduled event records for users are maintained within the database. Further maintained in the database is information on a current location of wireless devices of users in the database, wherein one user is associated with each wireless device. Scheduled event records and the current location of a wireless device for a shadowed user are provided from the database to a device operated by a shadower user in the database.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for managing a retention period for electronic content data are disclosed. The method includes running a records manager system. The records manager system defines a retention period for a plurality of electronic content data. The records manager system instructs a digital rights manager system to protect each of the plurality of electronic content data. Each of the plurality of electronic content data are protected with at least one usage policy for at least one of the plurality of electronic content data related to the retention period as governed by the records manager system. The defined retention period is logged, for later auditing, for each of the plurality of the electronic content data.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for autonomically virtualizing a data storage server. The apparatus, system, and method include a central control hub module configured to service storage server operations between a client and one or more storage servers, a detection module configured to determine whether a set of storage conditions is satisfied, and a creation module configured to create an additional instance of a storage server in response to the set of storage conditions being satisfied. The central control hub module may also include a mapping module configured to maintain storage mappings between the client and servers and provide the storage mappings to the client. When a new server instance is created, it may include a new maintenance database instance.

Abstract: The invention addresses the problem of storing and maintaining highly hierarchical information in a relational database, relational databases which are more prevalent and enjoy strong database provider support. The efficacy of the storage and the maintenance of highly hierarchical information a relational database is aided by a record key uniquely ascribed to each database record across all database record tables in the relational database. Further the record key has a format which permits the specification of a “contains” relationship between database records. Beneficial information storage and information retrieval improvements are attained by using this, and only this, record key to index all database records in all record tables in the relational database.

Abstract: A method is described for using descriptive logic (DL) representations to validate consistency in component business model (CBM) maps. Semantic constraints are generated from a semantic model of a component business model meta-model and inconsistency conditions of CBM maps. The semantic model of the CBM meta-model is applied to transform CBM maps into corresponding semantic representations. An inference engine applies the semantic constraints to the semantic representations to determine inconsistencies between one CBM map and another and between a CBM map and the component business model meta-model.

Abstract: When a search index is generated, it includes entries tagged with the readability of documents referenced by the search index. A determination of the readability is made if a document is not yet associated with a preexisting entry in the search index and is being added, by analyzing the document to produce a readability indicator. For example, the readability indicator can correspond to a grade level identifier, thereby enabling search index to be searchable by grade level, age, or age range. A grade level-based search request received from a user can be submitted to search this search index for documents limited to a specific grade or age readability. The search results that are returned are thus filtered in regard to the readability indicator associated with the documents in the search index.
