  • Patent number: 5438374
Abstract: Motion video is represented by digital signals. The digital signals can be compressed by coding to reduce bitspace. Noise in the signal, however, reduces the efficiency of coding. The present invention is a system and method for reducing noise in video signals by filtering. The signal for the current frame is weightedly averaged with signals for a future and prior frame. The future and prior frames are given less weight as they differ more from the current frame. When motion compensation information is available, the motion compensated future and prior frames can be used for averaging, further improving filtering.

  • Patent number: 5424782
Abstract: Disclosed is a mixing circuit. A still-picture signal (S) input from a still-picture signal input terminal and a motion-picture signal (M) input from a motion-picture signal input terminal are added together by a first adder, and the resultant signal is converted to (S+M)/2 by a first 1-bit right shifter, and to (S+M)/4 by a 2-bit right shifter. One of the outputs of those shifters is selected by a first multiplexer in accordance with shift signals CI2-CI0. The still-picture signal (S) and motion-picture signal (M) are also respectively converted by a second 1-bit right shifter and a third 1-bit right shifter to S/2 and M/2, one of which or "O" is selected by a second multiplexer in accordance with the shift signals CI2-CI0. The outputs of the first and second multiplexers are added together by a second adder to be input to a third multiplexer. The output of the third multiplexer is determined by the shift signals CI2-CI0, and is output from an output terminal.

  • Patent number: 5418578
Abstract: A circuit is provided for precorrecting an aural carrier signal in a common amplifier system in a television transmitter wherein an aural frequency signal and a visual signal are commonly amplified. The precorrecting serves to minimize cross-modulation distortion of the aural carrier caused by the common amplification. A visual carrier signal is modulated by a video baseband signal to provide a modulated video signal from which there is provided a sampled video signal. This sampled video signal is supplied to an aural corrector which provides from the sampled video signal a phase correction signal and an amplitude correction signal. The phase correction signal and amplitude correction signal are used to modulate an aural carrier signal to provide a precorrected aural signal which is then combined with the video signal to provide a combined signal.

  • Patent number: 5410369
Abstract: If it is determined that a current time when a power switch is operated manually is equal to or close to a reservation time indicated by preset reservation time data, a power source automatically starts supplying a power source current to individual circuits of a broadcasting receiving apparatus main body. Otherwise, supply of a power source current to the individual circuits is not performed. This prevents a receiving unit from unnecessarily receiving a broadcasting electric wave. When completion of broadcasting of all broadcasting contents of a broadcasting program is detected, the power source stops supplying the power source current to the individual circuits of the broadcasting receiving apparatus main body. This also prevents the receiving unit from unnecessarily receiving a broadcasting electric wave.

  • Patent number: 5410361
Abstract: A channel selection method stores broadcast channel numbers for which broadcast signals are input and displays the stored broadcast channel numbers on a screen, thereby facilitating broadcast channel selection. The method comprises the steps of storing the number of a corresponding channel by sequentially scanning broadcast signal channels, displaying the numbers of all the channels scanned in the storage step so as to be able to distinguish the stored channel numbers from unstored channels numbers, and selecting a channel using only a channel number stored in the storage step from among the displayed channel numbers. Accordingly, the broadcast channels can be identified with ease, permitting a desired channel to be easily selected.
