  • Patent number: 10674200
Abstract: A last viewed zone comprising video streams of a predetermined number of last viewed channels is provided. Channels selected by a user are identified and added to a channel list, which is maintained and stored in a temporary repository. When a selection of the last viewed zone is received, a last viewed zone user interface comprising a predetermined number of channels from the channel list is generated for display on the user's display device in a mosaic fashion such that the video streams of each of the channels may be viewed simultaneously. Additional functionalities like audio may be provided for the video stream of user's choice. The channels within the channel list may include the last channels tuned-to on the viewing device and user selected channels.

  • Patent number: 10560742
Abstract: A method is provided, that initiates with providing a video over a network to a plurality of client devices, wherein each client device is configured to render the video and track movements of a pointer during the rendering of the video. Movement data that is indicative of the tracked movements of the pointer is received over the network from each client device. The movement data from the plurality of client devices is processed to determine aggregate pointer movement versus elapsed time of the video. The aggregate pointer movement is analyzed to identify a region of interest of the video. A preview of the video is generated based on the identified region of interest.

  • Patent number: 10491939
Abstract: System and method for providing clear screen TV broadcasting to subscribed users. Two signals are provided by the broadcasters for the same channel: a mixed signal that includes the main program and additional content to overlap portions of the main program on the display, and a clear screen signal which includes only the main program. By default, decoding machines e.g. STB at the user's location, are adapted to decode the mixed signal to output on the display the main program and the additional content. The embodiments provide a mechanism to provide the additional content separately to subscribed users and switch the decoding at the STB to the clear screen mode for decoding and outputting the clear TV signal instead of the mixed signal.

  • Patent number: 10419794
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for synchronizing playback of media assets from multiple sources. For example, if a media asset is being delivered from two sources, a media guidance application may compare features in the media asset from the two sources and determine the amount of time that the two sources are out of synchronization. If the amount of time is greater than a threshold amount of time, the media guidance application may transmit supplemental content to a device receiving the media asset from the source that is ahead, such that the two sources are synchronized after the supplemental content is finished. If the amount of time is less than a threshold amount of time, the media guidance application may instruct the device receiving the media asset from the source that is ahead to pause the media asset until the two sources are synchronized.

  • Patent number: 10405052
Abstract: A digital video conversion device is communicatively coupled to a TV set and a TV signal source, respectively, to pass TV signals from the TV signal source to the TV set. Upon receipt of a TV channel identification request from a mobile terminal via a wireless communication channel, the digital video conversion device acquires an image from the TV signals currently broadcasted on the TV set and extracts a plurality of station logo characteristic sets from the image, each station logo characteristic set corresponding to one of a plurality of station logo templates. After calculating a similarity score between each station logo characteristic set and a corresponding station logo template, the digital video conversion device identifies one of the plurality of station logo templates as matching the image based on their similarity scores and returns TV channel information associated with the identified station logo template to the mobile terminal.

  • Patent number: 10382512
Abstract: A fault tolerant video streaming distribution service utilizes multiple distribution servers to receive and process a video stream simultaneously. Each distribution server performs a mapping of each encoded timestamp associated with a transport stream having time discontinuities to a continuous time sequence. The distribution servers coordinate the timestamp mapping through a distributed leader election protocol that elects a leader to coordinate the timestamp mapping in an environment where failures are anticipated and the number of distribution servers dynamically changes without notice.

  • Patent number: 10382607
Abstract: A method and system for switching television channels. A mobile terminal receives channel information, and displays the channel information on a display screen, to allow a user operating the mobile terminal to submit an instruction for switching to a user desired channel. The mobile terminal transmits the user instruction to a set-top box to instruct the set-top box to switch to the user desired channel according to the user instruction. A registration code generated using IMEI or MEID of the mobile device is registered at the set-top box to verify the mobile device before receiving or executing the user instruction. The transmission or the execution of the user instruction may be delayed to a scheduled time without affecting the currently played program.

  • Patent number: 10250925
Abstract: A method, a system, and a computer program product for providing media to a requester at a particular playback rate associated with the requester. The method includes receiving a request from a requester for a playback session of media that includes a time varying content. In response to receiving the request, a profile associated with the requester is accessed to determine a playback rate of the media for the requester. In response to determining the playback rate of the media for the requester, the media is provided to the requester at the determined playback rate. The method further includes monitoring the playback session of the media for playback changes by the requester and dynamically adapting the playback rate associated with the requester based on the type and frequency of playback changes.

  • Patent number: 10171853
Abstract: Systems and methods for managing available bandwidth in a household are provided. A request to access a first media asset is received. A determination is made as to whether a bandwidth currently available in the household is sufficient for enabling access to the first media asset. When the bandwidth currently available in the household is insufficient for enabling access to the first media asset, a search is performed for a second media asset currently consuming a portion of the household bandwidth needed for enabling access to the first media asset. A third media asset is identified having a remaining duration that is more than a remaining duration of the second media asset. A message is displayed that indicates the bandwidth currently available in the household is insufficient to access the first media asset and that has an option to access the third media asset instead of the first media asset.
