  • Patent number: 5265010
Abstract: This invention provides a hospital patient documentation method and apparatus which is used to generate an initial patient health plan which identifies the patient's health problems, the causes of the problems, expected outcomes, and interventions to achieve such outcomes. The system also provides for the periodic entry of progress notes on the patient, with the system automatically updating the care plan for the patient in response to the progress notes. The initial care plan and all updates are stored so that a audit trail is maintained and the user may obtain either a current patient health plan or a historical patient health plan on demand. The system is menu driven to facilitate uniformity and menu items are coded to facilitate subsequent retrieval and processing. Outcomes are displayed with outcome due dates and progress note generation may be inhibited if, on an outcome due date, the outcome has not been achieved or the due date updated.

  • Patent number: 5251130
Abstract: A method and apparatus for facilitating the contextual translation of textual entries within an interactive software application which is executable within a data processing system. A contextual translation procedure is created and inserted into a selected interactive software application. During execution of the selected interactive software application, display screens containing textual entries are typically generated. Upon encountering a screen requiring translation an operator may invoke the contextual translation procedure, causing a translation viewport to be displayed. Individual translate phrases within the display screen are then selected and displayed within the translation viewport. A contextual translation may then be entered into the translation viewport by a translator and displayed therein in proximity to the selected translatable phrase.

  • Patent number: 5243519
Abstract: A method and system for facilitating language translation of text fields within an interactive software application. A control parameter is associated with each text field within an interactive softwave application prior to translation and utilized to automatically extract each text field for translation and to reinsert a translated text field thereafter. In certain interactive software applications which utilize fixed template user-interface structures, such as dialog boxes or menu templates, the architecture will not permit captions or menu pulldown controls to be identified within the template. In such applications, an additional artificial control parameter is included within the template which contains an identifier of the text field for the caption or menu pulldown control. Thereafter, the control parameters may be utilized to automatically extract text fields for translation.

  • Patent number: 5243585
Abstract: In an optical head, a converging lens and a holographic optical element are arranged in the optical path of light reflected by the recording surface of an optical memory recording medium and passing through an objective lens. The holographic optical element has a hologram formed in at least one of two regions split by a region splitting line crossing the optical axis of the converging lens. A photodetector is arranged on the extension line of the optical axis. The photodetector has a plurality of detection surfaces which are respectively split along the region partition line of the holographic optical element to detect light beams diffracted by the hologram. The optical head also includes a detecting system for detecting a focusing error of the objective lens of the optical head by performing predetermined arithmetic operations using an incorporated processing circuit on the basis of output signals obtained by the plurality of detection surfaces of the photodetector.

  • Patent number: 5241467
Abstract: An improved system for space management in retail stores is described. The space management system includes price display labels mounted on rails along the edges of shelves in a store. A communications link between the computer and the labels permits the computer to address each label by a logical address and to determine the physical location of each label to within a resolution of typically four feet. The system prepares price audit lists and adjacency audit lists that permit economical use of the time of store personnel during the audit. The lists are generated in such a way that the items on a particular list are physically contiguous; thus once the correct general area has been located by the auditor little additional time need be spent locating the individual items. In performing an audit of product facings, the user is able to use the display hardware, including the pushbutton on each label, as a data collection system for product facing information.

  • Patent number: 5239460
Abstract: In an ACD system, motivational feedback information, such as the cumulative number of bonus points earned, is displayed on agents' terminal displays. The information is real-time, up-to-date, and substantially continuously displayed. It combines an objective, quantitative measure, such as the number of calls handled, and a subjective, qualitative measure, such as a quality factor representing a supervisor's evaluation of the agents' observed performance in handling calls. Illustratively, the per-call quantitative measure is multipled by an agent's presently-assigned qualitative measure to arrive at the per-call number of bonus points earned by the agent.

  • Patent number: 5216593
Abstract: The required computational effort in the areas of production planning and logistics, scheduling, distribution and resource allocation is reduced by a procedure for solving a Discrete Activity Resource Allocation (DARA) problem. The procedure begins by reducing all activities and resources which do not contribute to maximizing benefit. Thus, all infeasible and non-profitable activities are discarded and all non-constraining resources are discarded, thereby considerably simplifying the solution to the problem. Next, an automatic mathematical model formulation of the DARA problem is performed. Based on this model, a list of cliques and covers are generated. The linear relaxation of the DARA problem using standard linear programming software is solved, and the generated list of clique and cover induced inequalities is scanned to select a set violated by the solution of the linear relaxation of the DARA problem.
