Abstract: A system having a downhole sensor device and a compression device to obtain a sparse representation of data in downhole telemetry applications is described. The downhole sensor device can collect sensor data while the downhole sensor device is within a borehole. The compression device is coupled to the downhole sensor device and configured to receive the sensor data. The compression device can determine a wavelet coefficient vector for at least one row of n-tuple vectors. The wavelet coefficient vector can have a sparse representation of one or more nonzero elements. The compression device can process the wavelet coefficient vector through a set of compression algorithms, and determine a minimal bit cost of the processed wavelet coefficient vector. The compression device can select a compression algorithm from the set of compression algorithms corresponding to the minimal bit cost. The compression device can generate compressed data based on the selected compression algorithm.

  • Patent number: 10450854
Abstract: The present disclosure describes measuring bending moments within a drillstring or tool string to identify deflections (or “dog-legs”) within the string. In some systems, the bending moments a plurality of strain gauges. In some such systems the strain gauges will be arranged in a selected spacing around the circumference of the tool string, in many examples, at a common plane extending generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the string proximate the strain gauges. The bending moments may be further evaluated to provide a measure of wellbore tortuosity. For example, the bending moments may be utilized to define a radius of curvature associated with the determined bending moments, which may be further correlated with a directional measurement to apply a direction to the bending moment, and therefore to the tortuosity an any given location.

Abstract: A method includes obtaining a voltage phasor, a current phasor and a mechanical rotor angle of a source end generator. A receiving end generator impedance and a line impedance between the source end generator and a receiving end generator is also estimated. Furthermore, a swing angle between an internal voltage of the source end generator and an internal voltage of the receiving end generator as a function of obtained voltage phasor, current phasor, mechanical rotor angle and the impedances is estimated. A power swing condition is then determined based on the estimated swing angle.

  • Patent number: 10422907
Abstract: A method for seismic geological lineation mapping, wherein a seismic dataset is collected, with information about minor lineations generated by subtle structural geological features in an underground earth formation. Seismic attribute volumes are identified in the seismic dataset, relating to trace continuity, amplitude, frequency and phase. The attribute volumes may have an insufficient resolution to display the minor lineations. A seismic multivolume lithological lineation map is generated, in which single attribute lineation maps generated for each of the identified seismic attribute volumes are combined to accurately display the minor lineations generated by the subtle geological features.

  • Patent number: 10408883
Abstract: Evaluation of a DC power source can include communication with a voltmeter that is arranged to monitor electrical potential across positive and negative electrodes. The method includes determining a full-cell open-circuit voltage (“OCV”), an associated positive half-cell OCV, and an associated negative half-cell OCV at a start-of-life point of the DC power source. A lithium balance model is executed to determine a plurality of beginning states associated with an electrode alignment of the DC power source. An in-use state for the full-cell OCV is determined. An optimization routine is executed employing the lithium balance model to determine in-use states associated with the electrode alignment of the DC power source based upon the in-use state for the full-cell OCV and the beginning states associated with electrode alignment. A negative-to-positive (“N/P”) ratio is determined based upon the in-use states, and battery life is evaluated based upon the N/P ratio.
