  • Patent number: 5484364
Abstract: An adjustable striking bag support apparatus (10) includes a fixed frame portion (16) with a movable frame portion (18) mounted thereon. The movable frame portion includes upper projecting members (56) that are engageable with tab projections (36) that extend upwardly and outwardly from the fixed frame portion. The movable frame portion also includes lower projecting members (58) movable in vertically extending slots (46). A pair of hand screws (64) are used to lock the frame portions in fixed relative position. Vertical adjustment of the striking bag is achieved by loosening the hand screws and moving the movable frame portion by a handle (60) upwardly and outwardly so as to disengage the adjacent tab projections. Thereafter, the movable frame portion may be moved vertical to the desired level and re-engaged with a tab projection which thereafter supports the movable frame portion at the desired level. The hand screws are then retightened to lock the movable frame portion in position.

  • Patent number: 5478299
Abstract: A resistance exercise apparatus is provided which comprises generally means for receiving a body extremity of a user, the means for receiving a body extremity subject to a force provided by the body extremity, this force resulting in limited movement of the means for receiving a body extremity; means for maintaining the means for receiving a body extremity in a predefined plane during movement; and a means for providing resistance to movement upon application of the force to the means for receiving a body extremity. The apparatus may include a self supporting base portion, or may be adaptable for temporary connection for a bed. This apparatus, both portable and stationery versions, combines the well-known resistance methods of isometrics and isotonics to provide a more efficient exercise. Resistance is provide within a single plane by an elastic cord or by a fluid device.

  • Patent number: 5354247
Abstract: A modular step exercise unit includes a plurality of individual steps. Each step is in the form of a base having a horizontal platform which comprises the upper surface of the base with depending sides forming an apron which terminates in a plane parallel to the platform so that the apron can be placed directly on a support surface, such as a floor. The steps may be made of differing size so that during storage or even in certain use conditions, steps which are not being used can be stored within the periphery of the apron of the largest step. A multi-level step can be formed by mounting a smaller step on a larger step. The individual steps could be used abutting each other or spaced from each other to provide a multi-level arrangement which includes individual steps and the floor.

  • Patent number: 5281191
Abstract: A life-like striking dummy as an attachment to a punching bag for use in boxing, martial arts, and the like, is disclosed. More specifically its purpose is to augment and improve realism of training utilizing a punching bag as a mounting device. The striking dummy is sculptured three-dimensionally and comprises a first portion configured to anatomically resemble a human head, and is connected by a neck to a second portion configured to anatomically resemble a human torso. The total embodiment is detailed with facial, muscular, and skeletal features as targets to be struck by the user. The head, neck, and torso are homogeneously connected by construction preferably utilizing an integral skin flexible polyurethane foam material. The integral skin of the polyurethane is a near solid resilient protective outer layer which serves to prevent injury or damage to the striking dummy or user.

  • Patent number: 5194060
Abstract: A storable exercise device that can be used to perform a plurality of exercises is described. This device comprises a long shaft having a hingeable element on one end and a means for holding a plurality of weights on the other end. In between are, in order, a seat, a foldable knee lifting device, a foot element, a hooking means and a movable foot rest. This exercise device is particularly useful for exercising the calf muscles of the user. However, a plurality of other devices can be attached to the hooking element that is primarily used to store the device in an upright position against a wall. These other devices can be used to exercise shoulder, back, neck, chest and arm muscles, for example. Since the exercise device of this invention is simple, easy to assemble, storable and relatively inexpensive to manufacture, it has great utility over elements available in the prior art.

  • Patent number: 5180354
Abstract: A rotary cuff exercise machine includes a frame, an elongated platform aligned along a vertical midplane through the frame, and two sides rotatably connected to the frame on opposite sides of the midplane. Each rotatable side includes a horizontally pivotal lever, a hub for holding removable weights on one end of the lever, at least one actuating pad connected to the lever away from the hub for pivotally moving the weighted lever and an elbow rest located below the actuating pad for supporting the elbow during pivotal movement. With elbows supported on the elbow rests, and the hands bearing against the actuating pads, an exerciser lying face up on the platform may pivotally move the weighted levers, through either an internal rotation or an external rotation, depending upon the direction the exerciser is pointed, to exercise the muscles associated with the rotary cuff joint.
