Patent number: 4765772Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method and apparatus for filling voids in recycled asphalt. When asphalt has been recycled through the use of a heater-scarifier-screed apparatus, inherently, the pavement surface has voids therein which render the surface porous. The apparatus disclosed herein spreads a thin layer of asphalt over the recycled asphalt in such a manner that substantially all of the voids in the surface thereof are filled. When the method disclosed herein has been completed, the result is a substantially smooth, recycled, repaved trafficable asphalt surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1987Date of Patent: August 23, 1988Assignee: Angelo Benedetti, Inc.Inventors: Angelo W. Patent number: 4764051Abstract: An apparatus and method for cutting grooves on the edges of an already formed road. Each of a plurality of toothed cutting wheels revolves about a substantially vertical driving shaft. Simultaneously, each cutting wheel (attached to a respective rotary shaft) revolves about its own longitudinal and substantially horizontal axis. The apparatus is moved along a road, near an edge thereof, thus giving rise to one linear motion and two rotary motions. Sequentially, each cutting wheel enters an edge of the road from a region beyond the road edge, due to a slight tilt of the plane which contains the cutting wheel rotary shafts. The resultant grooves are deepest at the road edges and then gradually diminish to zero depth, the grooves being arcuate and parallel to each other. With the plane containing the cutting wheel shafts completely horizontal, the apparatus can cut rain drainage grooves in a raised marking strip on the road or can remove bumps from the road.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1987Date of Patent: August 16, 1988Inventor: James R. Patent number: 4763955Abstract: A miner, and method of mining, are provided for pitch seam mining of coal. The cutting heads powered from a power source at the mouth of the seam are introduced into the seam with a desired angle of inclination, and a chain conveyor with conveying elements extending between two spaced loops of chain conveys the cut coal from the seam to the mouth. Bucket conveyors, or drag flight conveyors, are preferred. The bucket conveyor can be used for pitch seam mining where the angle of inclination is about 15.degree.-80.degree. from the horizontal, and the drag conveyor can be utilized where the angle of inclination is about 15.degree.-35.degree. from the horizontal. A pair of powered shafts extend from the cutter power source to the cutting heads, and support the chains via sprockets, guides, and the like.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1983Date of Patent: August 16, 1988Assignee: Coaltex, Inc.Inventor: James C. Patent number: 4763954Abstract: The invention relates to an excavator and conveyor for an underground jacking apparatus for pipelines having a preferably non-man-sized rated cross section, which is driven into the surrounding soil from a manhole and comprises a digging head and at least one follower, jacking the digging head, and thereafter introducing additional jacked lengths of pipe. Rotating in the end area of the digging head is a digging disc which is set into rotation by a shaft. The shaft is surrounded at a distance by a conveyor tube, the wall of which is compartmentalized with respect to its outer cylindrical jacket in the vicinity of the digging head. Conveyor means are provided in the conveyor tube for conveying the excavated material back to the manhole. Sluice means are also provided in the conveyor cross section between the shaft and the conveyor tube wall, these sluice means serving to prevent incursions of groundwater.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1987Date of Patent: August 16, 1988Inventor: Gerd Soltau

Patent number: 4762175Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for connecting the firing head of a downhole tool to a set of jars to allow the jars to jar up and jar down. The apparatus includes a firing head housing, a hammer located in the housing, and a spring urging the hammer toward a firing pin. A mandrel extends into the housing. It has one end connected to a jar and the other end connected to the hammer by a shear pin. The mandrel also has longitudinally spaced oppositely facing shoulders and one or more lock segments around the mandrel between the shoulders. The movement of the lock segments along the axis of the housing is limited and the lock segments engage the oppositely facing shoulders to limit axial movement of the mandrel relative to the housing in either direction when the pin is sheared and the hammer released to strike the firing pin.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1987Date of Patent: August 9, 1988Assignee: Petro-Tech Tools IncorporatedInventor: James M. Patent number: 4758114Abstract: A vibratory concrete screed composed of a plurality of interconnected sections. Each section includes a series of frame members which are located at an acute angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the section. Each frame member is generally triangular in configuration and is composed of a base and a pair of sides which are connected together at an apex. The ends of the bases of the frame members are connected to a pair of parallel screed plates, while a ridge tube is connected to the apices of the frame members. The ridge tubes of adjacent sections are connected together by an adjustable connecting mechanism, and axial adjustment of the ridge tubes will tend to tilt the screed plates of one section relative to the adjacent section to provide the desired crown for the screed.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1987Date of Patent: July 19, 1988Assignee: M-B-W Inc.Inventor: Thomas G. Patent number: 4758291Abstract: An automatically operating apparatus is disclosed for applying webs of rubber or similar lining material of predetermined width and length to expanded surfaces of walls of steel in vessels, reactors of apparatuses and for pressing said webs thereagainst, with said apparatus comprising a guide frame for a drivable carriage and with said guide frame being easily mountable to follow surfaces of different lengths. Mounted on said carriage is an unwinding means for the web material as well as drivable position and pressing head adapted to be moved in the longitudinal direction of said carriage. The assembly is such that during operation, said pressing head is caused to steadily move along a zig-zag path and, in the course of unrolling said web material from the supply reel, said head positions said web portion against the surface to be lined progressively from left to right and from right to left and presses said web portion thereagainst at a constant predetermined pressure.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1986Date of Patent: July 19, 1988Assignee: Haw Harzer Apparatewerke KG, Schwemann & AlthoffInventors: Gerald Fechner, Rolf Meyer, Gerhard Porrmann

Patent number: 4758303Abstract: Apparatus for applying labels at selected locations thereon to such diverse artifacts as audio and video cassettes, compact and floppy discs, and envelopes and to a wide variety of other artifacts. The labels are peeled from a continuous backing supplied in roll or fanfold form by pulling the backing around the sharp edge of a peeler which is automatically elevated at an appropriate point in the operating cycle of the apparatus to facilitate the loading and unloading of the artifacts being labeled. A roller cooperates with the peeler in stripping the labels from the backing; and that roller, a second roller, or a brush is used to press the label onto the artifact being labeled. The artifact is supported by an interchangeable insert from a rectilinearly displaceable carriage.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1986Date of Patent: July 19, 1988Assignee: Investment Technology, Inc.Inventor: Gordon L.
