  • Patent number: 9909022
Abstract: The present teachings relate to various embodiments of an ink composition, which once printed and cured forms an organic thin film on a substrate such as, but not limited by, an OLED device substrate. Various embodiments of the ink can be printed using an industrial inkjet printing system that can be housed in a gas enclosure, which gas enclosure defines an interior that has a controlled environment maintained as an inert and substantially low-particle process environment. Patterned printing of an organic thin film on a substrate, for example, but not limited by, an OLED device substrate, in such a controlled environment can ensure a high-volume, high yield process for a variety of OLED devices.

  • Patent number: 9868796
Abstract: A technology for curing a photocurable resin composition by ultraviolet ray/infrared ray hybrid irradiation is provided. An infrared ray irradiation is applied at least one of before or after the application of ultraviolet ray irradiation to a photocurable resin composition, from which volatile components have been removed by a heating process, to have the photocurable resin composition cured. It becomes possible to relax the ultraviolet ray irradiation conditions for photo curing by applying an infrared ray irradiation as compared with the case in which the infrared ray irradiation is not applied, and, in particular, the scratch resistance characteristics of a cured film are significantly enhanced. Moreover, because of a combination of ultraviolet ray irradiation and infrared ray irradiation, the curing time period of a cured film can be reduced and/or stress relaxation effects can be produced.

  • Patent number: 9834692
Abstract: This disclosure is directed to formulations for inks and methods for achieving those formulations for use in an emerging class of variable data digital lithographic image forming devices. Specific sub-system requirements that are unique to the emerging architecture caused an exploration of formula boundaries that, through experimentation, were determined to substantially reduce particle sizes for the color pigments enabling a higher latitude for ink image thickness. Experimentally-derived behavior in reducing particle size and adjusting rheological properties results when a inks are processed using a 3-roll mill with cooling employed. Inks demonstrated a preferably reduced preferred particle size distribution enabling a higher latitude for ink image thickness down to about 0.5 microns.

  • Patent number: 9827088
Abstract: Methods and devices for altering the power of a lens, such as an intraocular lens, are disclosed. In one method, the lens comprises a single polymer matrix containing crosslinkable pendant groups, wherein the polymer matrix increases in volume when crosslinked. The lens does not contain free monomer. Upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation, crosslinking causes the exposed portion of the lens to increase in volume, causing an increase in the refractive index. In another method, the lens comprises a polymer matrix containing photobleachable chromophores. Upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation, photobleaching causes a decrease in refractive index in the exposed portion without any change in lens thickness. These methods avoid the need to wait for diffusion to occur to change the lens shape and avoid the need for a second exposure to radiation to lock in the changes to the lens.
