  • Patent number: 10571379
Abstract: A mechanical testing system having a frame, and a stage for holding a sample. An arm for pressing a tool against a surface of the sample. A primary actuator is connected to the frame and applies a primary force and drives the tool relative to the sample, thereby causing the frame to flex. A displacement sensor measures a displacement value comprised of two components, the first component including a distance traveled by the probe into the sample as the primary force is applied, and the second component including a measure of a degree of flex of the frame as the primary force is applied. A compensating actuator is connected to the frame and applies a compensating force that reduces the second component of the displacement value.

  • Patent number: 10518525
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for connecting a printing plate to a print cylinder or surface. The techniques may be implemented, for instance, with respect to a printing plate, a print cylinder, a print sleeve, or some combination thereof. In an embodiment, a field of mechanical fasteners is provisioned on a printing plate, and a complementary field of mechanical fasteners is provisioned on a print sleeve or cylinder. The mechanical fasteners collectively operate to provide a mechanical bond or interface that inhibits lateral and rotational movement of the plate during printing operations, and can also be configured to manage backlash between engaging surfaces of the interface. In some cases, backlash management includes use of cushion effect integral with the mechanical bond itself and/or unidirectional and possibly angled fastener elements to provide a snugging effect.

  • Patent number: 10495621
Abstract: An apparatus for surveying includes at least one survey cable, each survey cable having a proximal end attached to a mother vessel, a distal end connected to at least one subsurface towing vessel, and at least one survey device connected to the survey cable between the proximal end and the distal end. The survey cable extends in a direction perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the mother vessel during a survey. The survey cables extend a distance E sideways from the mother vessel, for example under an ice cap, e.g. solid ice or ice floes. When surveying in a polar region, the mother vessel needs only to break a narrow channel in order to survey a large area, thus saving energy, time and money.

  • Patent number: 10471752
Abstract: A chamber blade system maximizes ink flow at an anilox doctor blade by including a heating element adjacent the doctor blade to heat ink adjacent the blade. The heating element may be a heat strip next to an anilox doctor blade that heats the ink adjacent the doctor blade and temporarily reduces the ink viscosity to improve the flow of ink in the vicinity of the blade. Doctoring blades with a ceramic tip coating may be configured to allow a small amount of controlled ink flow through that can wet the lands thereby reducing the hydrodynamic back pressures and friction when trying to force the ink into anilox cells.
