Patent number: 5253084Abstract: There is disclosed an algorithm for use with a digitized image which provides a means of simulating a continuous tone image containing a range of gray shades from black to white or a color separation. The "threshold equation" is the key of the invention as it calculates a threshold gray value that is compared to the desired local image value to determine whether that particular point should be "on" or "off". Which points (spots) are "on" and which are "off" is determined by the function that assigns a "threshold" value (the shade at which a pixel changes from "off" to "on") based on a pixels "x" and "y" coordinates.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1990Date of Patent: October 12, 1993Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Richard L. Patent number: 5245418Abstract: A method is disclosed for recording and reading a color image formed on a receiving medium such as a film coated with a blue metastable colloidal silver. Upon application of heat to selected areas of the coating, the blue silver turns yellow to form an image. In a record mode, a modulated beam from a diode laser is scanned onto the receiving medium to form an image. In a read mode, a diode laser beam containing two different wavelengths of radiation is scanned across an image on the recording medium. In order to detect errors in the image, a detector senses the two wavelengths at each pixel and produces signals indicative of the densities of the yellow and blue in the pixel. Signal processing determines valid data points from the two signals.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1990Date of Patent: September 14, 1993Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Hugh S. A. Patent number: 5233330Abstract: An alarm circuit is provided which takes the place of auxiliary contacts that are generally used in association with circuit breakers or fuses to provide an alarm warning in the event that the circuit breaker or fuse in series with a load has opened for any reason. The alarm circuit is provided with a high resistance resistor that is connected to the load end of the circuit breaker, and at the other end of the resistor to a high gain amplifier or solid state switch. The output of the high gain amplifier is connected to a remote signal relay, which may be DC relay or an AC relay. The arrangement is such that the high gain amplifier becomes conductive in the event that the circuit breaker opens, thereby causing an alarm indication. Indicators are associated with the circuits, including an LED to provide a local signal indicative of the fact that the relay has changed its state. A remote alarm circuit is driven by the change of state of the remote signal delay.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1990Date of Patent: August 3, 1993Inventor: Alfred M. Hase

Patent number: 5233413Abstract: A colored original is scanned point-by-point and density values are generated for each point in the primary colors red, green and blue. The points are divided into groups and the density values for each primary color are averaged over the respective groups. The averaged density values for each group are transformed into a set of converted values including a luminance value as well as first and second chrominance values. The range spanned by the luminance values is divided into segments and each set is assigned to a respective segment. The sets are classified as color dominant or color nondominant by comparing the saturation value of each set with a threshold value. For each, segment the first and second chrominance values of the nondominant sets are respectively added to yield first and second sums. The first and second sums are shifted relative to the gray point to generate corrected first and second sums.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1991Date of Patent: August 3, 1993Assignee: Agfa-Gevaert AktiengesellschaftInventor: Hermann Fuchsberger

Patent number: 5223954Abstract: A color original such as a color reversal film and the like which may be different size (for example, the Brownie, 4".times.5", 35 mm) is fitted or stored in the original cassette mounted on the cassette base. The original is read to obtain a whole image data by a transmission type or a reflection type image sensor without catching any flare, and an auxiliary scanning is done sequentially on lines of the original, reading the whole surface thereof, so as to output directly the plates of C,M,Y and black (K). Because of the procedure described above the operation to produce the plates is easily done at a high speed by even an unskilled operator. The operation for scanning the original image comprises the steps of scanning (pre-scanning) the original image in rough, and then scanning (main scanning) it in detail. The original image is displayed in accordance with data of the pre-scanning and the data of the pre-scanning is stored in a memory.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1990Date of Patent: June 29, 1993Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Tadashi Miyakawa, Shinji Ito

Patent number: 5218463Abstract: A simple, low cost x-ray scanner providing enhanced resolution is formed by providing a straight-line optical path from an illuminating source, through the x-ray image to be scanned and thence to an imaging lens which forms an image on a CCD array. The x-ray film is fed by means of gravity to a pair of rollers, immediately above which are formed first and second apertures on either side of the roller. The film is eliminated through the apertures which provide a field stop for the optical system. A shutter immediately adjacent one of the apertures is coupled to a width-adjustment mechanism actuated by a feed guide for the film to thereby adjust the width of the aperture to the width of the film. The output of the CCD is modified to expand the output at low levels and compress it at high levels via a logarithmic mapping to adapt the high resolution CCD output to a lower resolution video display processor.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 1990Date of Patent: June 8, 1993Assignee: Sequel ImagingInventors: Thomas A. Patent number: 5218443Abstract: A television camera tube with spurious image black-out screen is disclosed. Especially in image pick-up tubes where the electron beam, scanning a photosensitive target, is oriented by a system of electrostatic deflection, it has been observed that spurious images appear in the output video signal of the tube. These images are apparently due to a return beam that comes back from the target and strikes the accelerating electrode of the electron gun. To black out these spurious images, it is proposed to mask the accelerating electrode with a masking screen carried, in principle, to the same potential as the electrode, this screen being characterized by its rounded edges, with their convexity pointed towards the target. It is perforated with a central aperture, also provided with rounded edges.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1989Date of Patent: June 8, 1993Assignee: Thomson-CSFInventors: Jean-Luc Ricaud, Gerard Guilhem

Patent number: 5210600Abstract: An imaging unit including a line sensor reads a film image to produce color decomposition data by scanning a plurality of lines on the film image in a stepped prescanning operation. During the prescanning operation, the color decomposition data of a plurality of pixels at each of a plurality of sampling points are sampled and added up on a line-by-line basis, and the added color decomposition data are averaged, where corrections including a shading correction are performed concurrently with the adding and averaging operations. During a period of from the end of the prescanning operation to the start of a main scanning operation, on the basis of the averaged color decomposition data, a density correction amount is determined and parameters to be used for correcting the film image in a succeeding actual image processing operation are calculated. The calculated parameters are set in a line memory.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1991Date of Patent: May 11, 1993Assignee: Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd.Inventor: Kunio Hirata
