  • Patent number: 11490167
Abstract: Systems and methods for dynamically skipping a presentation of a portion of segments to catch up to live based on a skippable bit value is disclosed herein. For example, a streaming application generates a content item for live streaming where the content item comprises a plurality of segments. In response to determining that playing of the content item lags behind the live streaming of the content item, the streaming application determines a skippable bit value for a segment that follows the last played segment based on a manifest which includes skippable bit information. If the segment includes a first skippable bit value, requesting data for the segment may be skipped. For a corresponding segment subsequent to the skipped segment, if the corresponding segment includes a second skippable bit, data for the corresponding segment is requested and the corresponding segment is played from a respective network address.

Abstract: Systems and methods for automatic display of recommended media content items are disclosed. A current media content item is displayed on a display screen. Subsequent media content items are identified in a remaining runtime of the media content based on preferences of a consumer profile. When a threshold period of time remains for displaying the current media content item, a sequential order of identifiers that identify the subsequent media content items, respectively, are displayed simultaneously with the displaying of the current media content item on the display screen. The sequential order is rearrangeable. A request is received to rearrange the sequential order of the identifiers and in response, the identifiers are displayed in a rearranged sequential order. At the conclusion of the current media content item, the subsequent media content items are automatically displayed according to the rearranged sequential order.

Abstract: Metadata for highlights of a video stream is extracted from card images embedded in the video stream. The highlights may be segments of a video stream, such as a broadcast of a sporting event, that are of particular interest to one or more users. Card images embedded in video frames of the video stream are identified and processed to extract text. The text characters may be recognized by applying a machine-learned model trained with a set of characters extracted from card images embedded in sports television programming contents. The training set of character vectors may be pre-processed to maximize metric distance between the training set members. The text may be interpreted to obtain the metadata. The metadata may be stored in association with the portion of the video stream. The metadata may provide information regarding the highlights, and may be presented concurrently with playback of the highlights.
