  • Patent number: 8073963
Abstract: A data stream change detector including a receiving module, a preprocessor module, a clustering module, a strangeness module, a p-value module, a martingale value determination module, comparison module, and an output module. The receiving module accepts new data vectors that originate from a sequence of data in a data stream. Preprocessor module preprocesses the new data vector using a filter. The clustering module clusters the new data vector with previously received data vectors. Strangeness module computes a strangeness value for each of the previously received data vectors. The p-value module calculates a p-value for the new data vector using the strangeness value. Martingale value determination module calculates a martingale value for the new data vector using the p-value. Comparison module compares the martingale value with a threshold value; and sets an indicator if a change if the martingale is greater than the threshold.

  • Patent number: 8040825
Abstract: A multiparty calling method, which includes initiating a multiparty call between at least a first, second and third terminal, and setting a flag in the first terminal to inform a processor of the first terminal to skip a process of closing an existing communication path between the first terminal and the second terminal, when the first terminal is disconnected with the third terminal. Further, the set flag is released when the multiparty call between the at least first, second and third terminals has been established for a predetermined time period. In addition, the first terminal preferably sets the flag when the multiparty call join command is transmitted to the network.

  • Patent number: 8000316
Abstract: An IP telephone apparatus is connected to an ENUM server and a Web server via an IP network. The ENUM server has a database that stores an IP telephone URI as terminal information of the IP telephone apparatus and a Web server URI corresponding to the IP telephone apparatus. The Web server stores image data captured by a camera. The IP telephone apparatus transmits to the ENUM server a query on terminal information of a destination IP telephone apparatus; receives from the ENUM server the terminal information of the destination IP telephone apparatus; acquires from the received terminal information a Web server URI corresponding to the destination IP telephone apparatus and performs visual communication with the Web server based on the Web server URI; and displays captured image data received from the Web server in the visual communication.

  • Patent number: 5954638
Abstract: A hand formable rod, band or sheet, consisting of a plurality of elements which are linked together in such a way that the whole can be either very flexible, or semi-rigid, or rigid. In the band, the elements have six degrees of freedom, providing unusual flexibility. This fabrication may be hand formed to a desired shape and then rigidified to a substantial stiffness. In the rigid state, this fabrication is strong enough to retract living tissue, and to perform as a mold, template, or fixator. The rigidity may be varied in very small increments by using a screw or screws acting upon tensioning cables. Tension causes increased friction between sliding surfaces. This friction creates stiffness and strength. Bending the fabrication does not cause material fatigue.

  • Patent number: 5906494
Abstract: A vocal training apparatus accomplishes reproduction of a music signal recorded on an information medium, where the music signal includes a model vocal signal and an accompaniment signal. A model vocal signal is extracted from the music signal and a singer's vocal signal is received. The model vocal characteristics are measured from the model vocal signal and the singer's vocal characteristics are measured from the singer's vocal signal. The singer's vocal characteristics and the model vocal characteristics can then be compared to evaluate the singer's vocal characteristics relative to the model vocal characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5863206
Abstract: An apparatus for reproducing video, audio and accompanying characters, suitable for use as a sing-along or karaoke apparatus, uses pre-stored display patterns, such as animal figures, instead of video segments. Thus, the apparatus does not have to rely upon the availability of video software that contains song lyrics as well as matching video segments. The apparatus is inexpensive to manufacture since the hardware related to reading and processing an optical image recording disk is not needed. The apparatus also uses the animation patterns on the screen to inform users about the beginning of the music program. Specifically, the changes in the motion and moving speed of display patterns inform the user of the start time of a selected music program. The animation patterns may be displayed during introduction and intermission period, and even during music performance.

  • Patent number: 5839905
Abstract: In accordance with this invention, a remote control for an interactive media can include a printed publication and/or a storage media and/or a data button. One embodiment of a remote control includes a printed publication (such as a book, magazine or a catalog) and one or more buttons physically attached to the printed publication to allow users to remotely control use of associated electronic content by a host device. Another embodiment of a remote control has a housing capable of removably holding a storage media encoded with electronic content associated with a button of the remote control. Yet another embodiment of a remote control has at least one data button which permits the user to select the data to be displayed by the host device. An autostart driver in the host device detects insertion of a storage media into a peripheral and automatically starts an application. The application interprets button codes transmitted by the remote control and displays the results or initiates other events.

  • Patent number: 5833468
Abstract: A remote learning system combines on-line service information and remote user information with a television signal designed to be received by students using multimedia personal computers. The combined signal is then transmitted to all of the students at their personal computers. At each personal computer, the received signal is separated into its component parts by a VBI modem for display or control on/of the personal computers. Each personal computer is capable of communicating back to a main server over a network such as a public telephone network. A broadcasting facility integrates the information transmitted over the network from a single student with the television signal.
