Patent number: 6321929Abstract: A shopping basket has four walls, a bottom and handles for allowing the basket to be carried, and one wall of the basket is provided with a section that projects either outwardly from or inwardly into the shopping basket and is adapted to serve as a receptacle for a bottle or can. This projecting section is integrally formed with the shopping basket wall, is cylindrically shaped with a radius slightly larger than that of a typical can or bottle and has a flat bottom retaining wall so that it is suited to hold securely an open, fluid-filled can or bottle without spilling its contents. Thus, a shopper using the shopping basket will easily be able to drink from a can or bottle and then place it within the receptacle formed from the shopping basket wall, removing it and replacing it as desired, so that the shopper can conveniently and selectively shop and drink from the can or bottle as desired.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1999Date of Patent: November 27, 2001Assignee: The Coco-Cola CompanyInventors: Benjamin S. Patent number: 6286709Abstract: An insulating sleeve for a beverage container is provided. The sleeve is constructed from at least two layers of fabric, and has an integral pocket incorporated between the two layers. Two elasticized fleece fabric panels, each having a rectangular body area and a pocket extension, are joined at their edges and then attached at their ends to form the sleeve. The pocket extensions are folded down between the two elasticized fleece fabric panels to form the integral pocket. The insulating sleeve has indicia affixed to its outer surface. The sleeve provides a beverage cup insulating sleeve that is easily positionable on a beverage cup, and that will remain in position without adjustment. It can be machine washed and used repeatedly, instead of thrown away after use. The sleeve can adapt itself to fit a variety of container shapes, and can be folded compactly for storage when not in use. Additionally the pocket provides a way of keeping a punchcard with the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1999Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Inventor: Cathy Hudson

Patent number: 6269967Abstract: A plastic container of an essentially rectangular shape comprises a bottom, upright side walls connecting to the bottom and having essentially equal thicknesses, and an outward beaded top edge on which the edge of a cover which closes the container can be fixed. Each upright side wall is divided in the vertical direction of the container into two interconnecting side wall parts, the lower side wall part being made curved towards the inside of the container (concave), and the upper side wall part being made curved towards the outside of the container (convex), and the upper and lower side wall parts being connected to each other by an intermediate part. This produces a very stable container, which is suitable for storage and transportation of sensitive powdered materials.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1997Date of Patent: August 7, 2001Assignee: Wavin Trepak, B.V.Inventor: Jef de Vries

Patent number: 6264058Abstract: A container for dispensing a predetermined amount of liquid through a dispensing tube is disclosed. A valve is dimensioned to contain and dispense a predetermined about of liquid and dispense the liquid through a dispensing tube in contact with the valve. The liquid is in fluid contact with the inlet port when the base is in a first position and out of fluid contact with the inlet port when the base is in a second position. Thus, the valve fills with liquid when the container is in a substantially horizontal position while angling the container removes the liquid from contact with the valve and stops the fluid flow. Preferably the container has a sealable, watertight lid that receives the dispensing tube and incorporates vent holes to enable airflow into the container. The fluid inlet port can be placed in the side or top of the valve. The valve can alternatively be a tube with fluid and tube inlets in fluid communication.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1999Date of Patent: July 24, 2001Inventors: Jerry Porter, Barbara Y. Porter

Patent number: 6253948Abstract: A stackable nestable container has access openings in at least one of the side and end walls. The access openings are covered by a dispensable panel that can be removed for enabling access to the contents of the container. The container is therefore suitable for use in shipping goods as well as displaying the goods at a retail outlet. Upon return of empty containers, the panels do not need to be replaced and the containers can be stacked in a nested stack, separately from the lids. Then, when the containers are to be used again, new or replacement panels are fit into the access openings. The panels are of a lightweight, inexpensive material and are therefore expendable, and can even be discarded by the user when a need arises to remove or replace the panels. Also, the panels have a wide flat area on which advertising or other indicia can be printed, which is typically displayed on the sides of containers.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1999Date of Patent: July 3, 2001Assignee: Buckhorn, Inc.Inventor: Paul J. Patent number: 6253940Abstract: A tamper-indicating closure of integrally molded plastic construction that includes a base wall having a peripheral skirt with an internal thread for affixing the closure to the container finish. A tamper-indicating band is connected to an edge of the skirt by frangible bridges. A stop flange extends from an edge of the band remote from the skirt for abutment with a bead on the container finish to inhibit removal of the closure absent fracture of the frangible means. A plurality of circumferentially spaced openings extend radially through the skirt at a position between the frangible bridges and the internal thread. These openings provide for ingress of cleansing solution during a washing operation after the closure is applied to a container to flush any residue from between the tamper-indicating band and the closure finish.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1999Date of Patent: July 3, 2001Assignee: Owens-Illinois Closure Inc.Inventors: Paul R. Patent number: 6223922Abstract: A returnable reusable container which may be quickly assembled to contain a product and quickly disassembled to a substantially flat condition for storage and return shipping when empty. The container has a rigid member extending around its upper perimeter to prevent twisting of the container. This member has locking means to hold the container in an assembled position, and which unlock to allow the disassembly of the container. The locking means when engaged restrains relative movement at the corners in all directions except the direction required to disengage the lock. When the flaps are fixed to the sides of the container, relative movement at the corners is restrained in all directions.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1999Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Inventor: David A. Patent number: 6216908Abstract: A fuel sending unit for an off-road vehicle subject to upward impacts on a fuel tank of the vehicle. The fuel sending unit includes a cannister providing a reservoir for fuel. A frame for supporting the cannister in the fuel tank has legs which straddle the cannister. Side bars slidable vertically on the legs have horizontal pivot pins which pivotally support the cannister. The cannister is in the form of an elongated cylindrical body and is rotated to a vertical or upright position for insertion into the fuel tank. After insertion, the cannister is rotated to a horizontal position of use in which it is spaced a substantial distance above the bottom wall of the fuel tank. The legs are supported on the bottom wall of the fuel tank. The side bars are connected to the top wall of the fuel tank. Springs carried by the legs press upwardly on the side bars.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1999Date of Patent: April 17, 2001Assignee: DaimlerChrysler CorporationInventors: Robert B. Hutter, Donna M.
