  • Patent number: 8861385
Abstract: A communication device selects a layer 2 address to be changed, and transmits a presence check request message via a network to which the communication device is connected. The communication device determines, based on a received result of the presence check request message, whether the layer 2 address is duplicated with another communication device connected to the network. When the communication device confirms the layer 2 address is not duplicated, the communication device changes the layer 2 address of the communication device.

  • Patent number: 8837299
Abstract: A system and method for providing Connectivity Fault Management, CFM, in a Provider Backbone Bridge Traffic Engineering, PBB-TE, telecommunication network utilizing Ethernet-based packet transport. PBB-TE point-to-point and point-to-multipoint services are identified, and PBB-TE maintenance points (31, 41) associated with the identified PBB-TE services are addressed. The addressed PBB-TE maintenance points are modified by adding a PBB-TE Service Demultiplexer (32, 42) to each PBB-TE maintenance point for identifying independent PBB-TE service instances. Basic CFM protocols are enhanced to duplicate the behavior of CFM protocols on virtual local area network, VLAN, based maintenance associations. The PBB-TE maintenance points may be Maintenance association End Points, MEPs, and Maintenance association Intermediate Points, MIPs.

  • Patent number: 7965638
Abstract: A novel policer mechanism that incorporates randomization of the rate threshold which prevents “lockup” and “synchronization” problems associated with prior art policers that employ fixed rate thresholds. In one embodiment, a policer machine utilizes the well known sliding window technique to implement traffic control. In a second embodiment, a policer machine utilizes the well known token bucket technique to implement traffic control. In both embodiments, a random dimension is added to the rate threshold used by each policer algorithm. For the sliding window embodiment, the effect of randomization of the rate threshold is that the policer machine applies a scattering of rate values centered around the desired rate to the incoming traffic. For the token bucket embodiment, a random dimension is added to the empty bucket (i.e. zero tokens) threshold.

  • Patent number: 7916749
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for jointly encoding bits containing information about an existing modulation technique or an existing antenna transmission technique in order to extend signaling to include new information about an additional modulation technique or the use of an additional antenna transmission technique without having to increase the number of bits transmitted in the signaling; and conveying the new information in unused combinations of the encoded bits. The signaling may take the form of a high speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH) that forms part of a high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA). In some embodiments, the existing modulation technique may include quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), 16 quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM), or some combination thereof, and the additional modulation technique may include 64 quadrature amplitude modulation (64QAM).

  • Patent number: 7864663
Abstract: The technology in this application spreads a signal over an available discontinuous spectrum, such as a radio frequency band, so that the spread signal only occupies the non-contiguous spectrum. In this way, CDMA transmission and reception can be used in a fragmented or non-contiguous spectrum that otherwise would not be useable for direct sequence spreading. Spreading over non-contiguous portions of spectrum is preferably performed without producing unacceptable interference in portions of unavailable spectrum located between the allowed spectrum. By avoiding unacceptable interference in portions of unavailable spectrum located between the allowed spectrum, the unavailable spectrum may be used by other users or services.

  • Patent number: 7864802
Abstract: A method and system, are provided for dynamically allocating channel resources in a wireless network. The wireless network may be a multi-rate network having a base station controller that adapts wireless channel rates associated with a communication session based on a TCP sending rate associated with a sending device. The base station controller includes a scheduler and optimization engine that probes the wireless network to gather TCP parameters, such as round trip times, etc. The optimization engine utilizes a long-term sending rate to generate a subset of channel rates from available channel rates associated with the wireless network. The scheduler engine utilizes the instantaneous sending rate to adapt the wireless channel rate by selecting a channel rate from the subset of channel rates.

  • Patent number: 7792155
Abstract: A communication system is formed with a master unit having a communication function and at least one slave unit also having a communication function connected by a network including a bus. Repeater units are inserted on the network between the master unit and the slave unit in one or more stages. As the master unit transmits request frames downstream through the network to the slave unit, the slave unit control the timing of transmitting the response frames in response successively such that the master unit receives the response frames without waiting in between regardless of repeater delay times of each of the returned response frames determined by the number of stages of the repeater units. Each communication frame that is transmitted through the network contains identification data indicative of its type and each repeater unit serves to repeat certain types of received frames only in the upstream direction.
