  • Patent number: 4474367
Abstract: A sheet handling apparatus includes a rotatable hollow sheet transport drum with a plurality of openings extending therethrough, a vacuum supply for supplying a partial vacuum to the interior of the drum, a drive for rotating the drum, and a stationary deflection plate disposed adjacent the outer drum surface. A vacuum shield is mounted within the drum and is movable from a first position, remote from the inner wall of the drum, to a second position, adjacent the wall. The shield, when in its second position, prevents the partial vacuum from being applied to the leading portion of a sheet on the drum so as to permit the leading edge of the sheet to deflect outwardly from the drum and strike the deflection plate.

  • Patent number: 4473223
Abstract: A sorter for collating sheets into sets comprises a plurality of sheet-receiving bins defined by an array of movable plates 1-5, 5a and an indexing wheel 23 for indexing the input ends of the bin plates sequentially past a fixed feed throat 22 to align the bin openings in turn with the feed throat 22. Adjacent bin plates 1-5, 5a are relatively movable apart and together for varying the sizes of the bin openings and are interconnected to limit their maximum spacing. The bin plates are arranged in a fan-like array and are so mounted that their inner ends abut to define the maximum bin spacing.

  • Patent number: 4463944
Abstract: A laundry piece stacking device which stacks a predetermined number of laundry pieces uniformly and evenly in a stack. Laundry pieces of a predetermined size are conveyed from an ironing area along a double feed conveyor to a swing arm conveyor. The swing arm conveyor is pivotable and rotates in an arc above a work discharge zone. By appropriate adjusting elements, the laundry pieces are evenly draped over a first conveyor in a stacking arrangement until the number of pieces in the stack equals a predetermined count. At that time, the first conveyor and a second, adjacent conveyor are activated for a brief interval so that the first stack formed is transported away from the work deposit zone towards a workpiece receiving area located at the far end of the second conveyor means. The swing arm conveyor is inhibited from operation during this time period. After one stack is removed, additional stacks are formed on the first conveyor and sequentially conveyed towards the receiving area.

  • Patent number: 4460197
Abstract: A cross member includes a steering shaft support and mounts a ground engaging wheel at each end thereof via a component mounted at each end of the cross member for partial rotation about a vertical axis. A steering arm extends from this component which is adjustably clamped to the steering arm. A connecting rod extends from each steering arm to a centrally located pitman arm extending from the steering shaft which in turn is mounted on the steering shaft support. Preferably, one connecting rod freely hooks onto one steering arm and to the pitman arm with the other connecting rod being hooked to the other steering arm and to the first connecting rod. The angular relationship between the pitman arm, the connecting rods and the hooked ends of the steering arms causes the wheels to turn at different radii and the hooked connections provide the necessary up and down movement without excessive play or clearance thus eliminating the need for more expensive pivot type assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4458893
Abstract: A sheet fed printing press having an impression cylinder with a feed board presenting a sheet with its leading edge in a position for pick up. A rotary sheet feeder is interposed between the feed board and the impression cylinder for picking up the leading edge of the sheet from its stationary position and transferring the leading edge to grippers on the moving impression cylinder. The sheet feeder is directly driven by a high powered electric motor. High resolution pick up heads and associated angle coders produce output signals respectively representative of the phase position of the cylinder and sheet feeder. A programmed phase offset device is provided defining a predetermined relation of desired feeder phase as a function of impression cylinder phase.

  • Patent number: 4453741
Abstract: A device is disclosed for adjusting the height of a reversing mount of a shoulder belt of a restraining system disposed on a vehicle body in the vicinity of the shoulder of a passenger. The device comprises a slide guide fixedly associated with the vehicle body for receiving an adjusting element, an adjusting element positioned on the slide guide and supporting a reversing mount. The adjusting element supports an elastically supported latch. The latch automatically engages latching positions provided on the slide guide and is automatically brought out of the latching positions by deflecting ramps provided on the slide guide when the adjusting element is adjusted upward. The device further includes an actuating mechanism for adjusting the height of the adjusting element upward and downward. The actuating mechanism comprises a drive and a slide which is connected with the drive and is movably guided on the adjusting element relative to the latch.

  • Patent number: 4452442
Abstract: A delivery mechanism for a sheet fed printing press in which a rear edge guide in the form of a traverse member guides the rear edges of the downwardly settling sheets into a condition of register. A brake assembly is provided for engaging the trailing edges of the sheets to decelerate them, the assembly being horizontally adjustable to accommodate sheets of different length and the traverse member being coupled by linkage to the brake assembly for simultaneous adjustment therewith. An intermediate stacking mechanism is provided having a horizontal frame and an intermediate pile receiver which is shiftable between a receiving position and an out-of-the-way position for temporarily accumulating sheets during a pile change. Detent assemblies at the ends of the traverse member lock the traverse member to the frame following horizontal adjustment.
