Abstract: A system facilitates the secure access, transfer and update of patient record information and the creation and navigation of image menus supporting the location and access of desired patient record data by a user. A system provides a user interface for use by a portable processing device for accessing and navigating patient record information. The system receives user identification information for use in authorizing user operation of the portable processing device and initiates display of an image including a plurality of links to a corresponding plurality of individual patients. The system also initiates display of a patient record content index image including a plurality of links to a corresponding plurality of items of patient record information in response to user selection of a link to one of the plurality of individual patients.

Abstract: A method of controlling a display of a data processing system includes displaying a first list as a scrollable view of items in a first mode; receiving an input to switch from the first mode to a second mode; and displaying, in the second mode, a representation of a command which when activated causes a displays of a second list of the items. Another method of controlling a display of a data processing system includes displaying in a first mode, a slider control which can be positioned in one of a plurality of positions to select a corresponding parameter; receiving an input to switch from the first mode to a second mode; and displaying, in the second mode, a representation of a command which when activated causes a-displays of a list of items corresponding to at least a subset of the plurality of parameters.

Abstract: The present invention includes a computer user interface system and a method for displaying short segments of video each representing a single theme or event (called video cliplets or “cliplets”). The computer user interface displays the cliplets and information and properties of each of the cliplets. Through the computer user interface of the invention, a user can quickly and easily determine the contents and interesting portions of the video. The cliplet user interface method includes displaying a plurality of cliplets in a two-dimensional arrangement along with cliplet information. The cliplet user interface system includes a plurality of keyframe windows for displaying cliplets and a keyframe within each keyframe window representing a cliplet therein. Moreover, the cliplet user interface system includes a cliplet property presentation area for displaying a cliplet interest rating. The cliplet interest rating indicates the amount of interesting content within the cliplet for a particular cliplet property.

Abstract: The homepage creation and update program allows the user to perform only selection of desired images and indication of beginning of homepage creation process to automatically create a homepage easily. The homepage creation and update program possesses a function of displaying plural stored images and allowing the user to select desired images, a function of allowing the user to indicate beginning of the homepage creation process, and a function of automatically creating or updating a homepage using the selected images after the user selects desired images and then indicates beginning of the homepage creation process. The homepage creation and update program allow a computer to execute these functions, so that the user performs only selection of desired images and indication of homepage creation to acquire an automatically or semiautomatically created or updated homepage.

Abstract: A method for blocking content from being presented at a client device including substitution of alternative content. The client device recognizes and evaluates the received tags and blocks content based on a user profile. Substitute content is then identified and presented to the user. Substitute content includes a blank screen, prestored contents, a screen saver, alternative server content, and user selected content. The user may be prompted prior to substitution or choose that substitute content be automatically presented without prompting. Audio may be presented while substitute video is presented.

Abstract: An icon display system is provided in which an icon train selectable on an icon menu screen is managed by a display icon management table and non-display icon management table to visualize a part of the entire icon train. This is done by disposing the visualized icon train in an orbit while holding the other part of the icon train as invisible icons on the screen and displaying the invisible icons by moving the icon train in the orbit. Some icons are made to visually disappear at a discontinuity of the orbit by moving the icon train in the orbit and the new icons can be made to appear at the discontinuity to the screen. With this system, patterns of individual icons can be prevented from being indiscernible from each other no matter how many icons are set selectable on the display screen.

Abstract: Various disclosed help center features provide help to a user without a staffed help center, provide help to a user before the user recognizes the need, or create targeted commerce opportunities for a provider of goods or services. One help center feature provides a user with help that is specifically related to a component in the user's computer system and that is supplied to the help center feature by the component manufacturer. Another help center feature detects a condition that degrades performance, and hence user satisfaction, and alerts the user. Another help center feature detects an attempt by a computer system to inform the user of degraded performance and offers the user a solution. Another help center feature provides a user with a commerce opportunity specifically related to a component in the user's computer system and/or to the user's geographic location.

Abstract: A data display comprises a window that shows a tree map display having menu information surrounding a field array of differently sized and colored or shaded areas that represent product offering possibilities that conform with user criteria entered through the surrounding menu windows. A Web site that uses the display technique may receive user criteria and retrieve a portion of collected data and display it to the user, so that the retrieved data describes a data subset that is responsive to the user criteria. The retrieved Web pages may be viewed to facilitate review of product offering information, and to facilitate purchase decisions that are transmitted from the Web site visitors.

Abstract: Navigation management occurs in a mobile device during a directory up-down scroll and it involves a user interface and a directory (e.g., mobile directory of photos). The directory is a tree-shaped hierarchy of nodes such that any node on the directory is selectable by a user via the user interface. This way navigation can flow up-down through the directory. Additionally, the navigation management involves associating a state and one or more action items with each node and saving the state. The state is an expanded or collapsed condition of the node. If the state of a particular node is expanded, additional nodes at a lower level of the hierarchy are presented to the user. If its state is collapsed only that particular node is presented and the other nodes are hidden. The user interface includes for any node selected by the user its associated one or more action items.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and system for use in a computing environment to present and provide access to information that a user cares about. A scheme is provided for presenting frequently used controls and information in tiles within a sidebar. Tiles are hosted individually or in groups, within a sidebar, for interaction by a user. Tiles can be added or removed from the sidebar automatically or by user request. The present invention is further directed to a method for providing a scaleable and useable preview of tiles within a sidebar. Further still, the present invention is directed to maintaining an overflow area of icons for tiles that would not fit within the sidebar. The sidebar has content that dynamically adjusts in response to the addition, expansion, squishing or removal of tiles. Even Further, a user can customize the sidebar of the present invention.

Abstract: An alternate display content controller provides a technique for controlling a video display separately from and in addition to the content displayed on the operating system display surface. Where the display is a computer monitor, the alternate display content controller interacts with the computer utility operating system and hardware drivers to control allocation of display space and create and control one or more parallel graphical user interfaces adjacent the operating system desktop. An alternate display content controller may be incorporated in either hardware or software. As software, an alternate display content controller may be an application running on the computer operating system, or may include an operating system kernel of varying complexity ranging from dependent on the utility operating system for hardware system services to a parallel system independent of the utility operating system and capable of supporting dedicated applications.

Abstract: A system is described that includes a host computer and a client computer. The host computer maintains data defining a set of selectable items, and the client computer executes a user interface module that presents a user interface that includes a first selection mechanism populated with a first subset of the items for selection by a user and a search input. In response to activation of the search input mechanism the user interface module presents a second selection mechanism populated with a second subset of the search items that includes a greater number of the search items than the first subset.

Abstract: The Universal Plug and Play architecture contemplates devices and control points that can automatically integrate themselves into a network and provide functionality to a user. Extensions are provided that allow an information presentation appliance to identify categories of information the user wishes that appliance to display. The appliance, acting as a device, can advertise functionality that only allows for the display of information that matches the categories selected by the user. Alternatively, the appliance can act as a control point and request information from information storage devices that matches the categories selected by the user. Using either alternative, the user is allowed to tune, at the appliance, the information that the appliance presents.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for editing a region of a document intersecting multiple content component types in a single operation. The apparatus includes an input module, a function module, an identification module, a document editing module, and an output module. The input module receives a description of a region of a document. The region intersects a plurality of content component types. The function module obtains a function to be applied to the region. The identification module identifies a set of content components intersecting the region. The document editing module processes intersecting portions of the content components using the function. The output module updates the document with processed intersecting portions of the content components. The apparatus may additionally include a format module that determines an acceptable content component format for the function and a conversion module that converts the intersecting portions of the content components to the acceptable format.

Abstract: A method for creating a graphic user interface (GUI) for a computer application includes defining a relation that associates certain graphic elements (84, 86, 88, 90, 92) with corresponding user interface elements (64, 66, 68, 70, 72) that are linked to functions of the application. An image (80) is provided that includes one or more of the graphic elements at respective locations in the image. A user interface screen (140) is generated responsive to the image, such that the user interface elements are mapped to positions on the screen determined by the respective locations of the corresponding graphic elements in the image.

Abstract: A system, method and program product for presenting and selecting an active region of a physical document page. A transparent electro-luminescent tablet or touch sensitive plate positioned over the physical document page is coupled and identified to the workstation. The workstation stores information defining an active region for the physical document page and a hyperlink to a web page. The workstation directs the tablet or plate to display the active region over the physical document page. A user touches a point within the active region. In response, the tablet or plate conveys the touch point to the workstation which displays on a computer screen the hyperlink. The active region can be identified by an outline that encompasses the active region and can encompass another such active region, so that touching a point within the inner active region elicits display of hyperlinks or documents related to both active regions.

Abstract: Data about a transaction is accessed. The transaction has a set of components. A graphical representation of the components of the transaction is displayed such that the graphical representation includes a time axis and a call stack position axis. In one embodiment, the time axis depicts time left to right and the call stack position axis depicts call stack position top to bottom. Additionally, the user interface can receive a selection of one of the components, access data for the selected component and display additional details about that selected component.

Abstract: Content is transferred from one computer resource to another computer resource by receiving a first insertion point or replacement area from a first user interface to a destination computer resource, receiving an enablement to perform automatic paste operation, switching to a user interface to a source computer resource, receiving a user selection of content from said source user interface, and automatically copying the selected content to a transfer buffer and to the designated insertion point(s) in the destination computer resource. Additional content may be copied to the destination computer resource by simply selecting additional content in the same source computer resource or other computer resources without need to toggle back to the destination user interface between every copy and paste operation.

Abstract: A plurality of displayable screens are classified into a plurality of screen groups in such a manner that two or more of the screens belong to each individual screen group. Once a desired one of the screen groups is designated by activation of a shift switch, respective tabs of the two or more screens belonging to the designated screen group are visually displayed on a display device. Then, once a desired one of the thus-displayed tabs is designated by activation of a tab switch, the screen corresponding to the thus-designated tab is displayed on the display device. Even when the tab display has been switched by designating another screen group, the screen corresponding to the last designated tab (i.e., main screen), is prevented from being changed unless another tab is designated.

Abstract: A method of visually indicating transfer of data in response to a pointing device data transfer command is provided. A display position indicator on a display screen is modified based on a data transfer command. Data transfer is animated on the display screen based on the data transfer command from a pointing device.
