Abstract: A multipurpose cinch cleat and method of securing a line thereto with maximum simplicity, to prevent longitudinal movement of the line relative to the cleat in one direction, or if desired, in both directions. The cleat includes an elongated support having a cantilevered post with a free end extending outwardly therefrom, the support having opposite end portions which are fixedly mounted upon a supporting surface with the support being spaced from therefrom. Securing a line to the cleat includes passing the line around one side of the post to create opposing right and left-hand line segments; then passing one of the segments toward and around the support, and then around the opposite side of the post. The passed segment effectively becomes a tension line under load, restricting outward longitudinal movement, and the opposite segment becomes a take-up line which, when pulled, allows free longitudinal movement to take up slack in the tension line for tightening same.
