  • Patent number: 4504461
Abstract: A process is provided for producing ammonium metatungstate comprising fluid bed roasting ammonium paratungstate at a temperature over the range of about 275.degree. C. to 305.degree. C. for a time at least sufficient to provide a roasted product in the form of a precursor of ammonium metatungstate, forming an aqueous slurry of the precursor and digesting the precursor at a pH of about 3 to 4 for a time at least sufficient to effect substantially complete dissolution of said precursor, filtering the digested slurry to produce a clear filtrate, and further processing the clear filtrate by evaporation to provide crystals of substantially pure ammonium metatungstate.

  • Patent number: 4483831
Abstract: A method and apparatus for calcining lime, dolomite or similar materials in which the raw material to be calcined is preheated in a preheating zone by exhaust gases from a calcining zone, cooled by means of combustion air in a cooling zone, the combustion air passing from said cooling zone into said calcining zone and then into the preheating zone. A specific improvement of the invention resides in adding fuel in the calcining zone at a plurality of spaced locations along the calcining zone in the direction of flow of the combustion air therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4483715
Abstract: Dibasic calcium hypochlorite scale found on the surfaces of process equipment used for the manufacture of calcium hypochlorite is removed chemically by submerging the scale in water, thereby to form an aqueous alkaline solution, and controllably adding hydrochloric acid to the alkaline solution under conditions of agitation and while maintaining the pH of the solution at at least 7, thereby to solubilize the dibasic calcium hypochlorite scale without producing substantial amounts of elemental chlorine.
