Patent number: 4786537Abstract: A dry transfer article comprising an adhesive layer, a graphic pattern contained thereon, an actinic radiation-transmissive, ink-receptive layer between the adhesive layer and the graphic layer, and an application tape over the graphic pattern. The adhesive layer comprises an actinic radiation-responsive composition. Exposure of the article to actinic radiation selectively differentiates the adhesive potential between those portions of the adhesive layer underlying the graphic pattern and the exposed portions of the adhesive layer. After application of the article to a substrate, removal of the application tape causes selective removal of unwanted areas leaving desired graphic pattern on the substrate, i.e., the transfer article if self-weeding.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1986Date of Patent: November 22, 1988Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Makoto Sasaki

Patent number: 4783359Abstract: A preferably low dielectric constant polymeric bonding layer is applied or bonded (i.e., laminated or coated) to at least one side of a preferably low dielectric constant polymeric delay line substrate. Preferably, the melting or softening point of the bonding film is lower than the melting or softening point of the substrate so that the application (e.g. lamination) step is carried out at a temperature which is above the softening point of the bonding film, but below the softening point of the substrate (thereby insuring the integrity of the delay line circuit). Thereafter, the delay line/bonding layer assembly is rolled up and head sealed so as to melt the bonding layer, thus heat sealing the delay line package. As the package heats up (in, for example, a tightly fitting die), the materials expand and provide sufficient pressure to bond the circuit together.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1986Date of Patent: November 8, 1988Assignee: Rogers CorporationInventors: Cathy A. Patent number: 4783373Abstract: A coating useful for a solar cell is formed by concurrent deposition of two materials, such as silicon dioxide and magnesium fluoride, on a substrate within a single vacuum chamber. The deposition is monitored to enable control of the ratio of the materials and the thickness of the coating. An alternative embodiment of a coating employs alternating layers of different materials which form pairs or periods, each having a very small optical thickness. By virtue of the coatings, emissivity is enhanced by suppression of the reststrahlen reflectance and solar absorption is reduced by external reflection of the ultraviolet portion of the solar spectrum.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1986Date of Patent: November 8, 1988Assignee: Optical Coating Laboratory, Inc.Inventors: Philip W. Patent number: 4781954Abstract: This relates to laminated preforms, the method of forming such preforms and products which may be beneficially formed utilizing such preforms. Most particularly, this relates to a preform which has formed as part of the injection molding thereof two layers of barrier material which are disposed within two layers of thermoplastic resin and having received therebetween a solid core of thermoplastic resin. The specific method of forming the preform permits the barrier material layers to be of a greatly reduced thickness as compared to such layer thicknesses permissible in the past, with the result that the barrier material layers in the blow molded articles are of a thickness recognized to be acceptable for the barrier function. The barrier material layers may be selectively terminated along the length of the preform so as to permit portions of the resultant blow molded article to be removed and reused. This abstract is not to be construed as limiting the claims of the application.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1986Date of Patent: November 1, 1988Assignee: Continental PET Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Suppayan M.
