  • Patent number: 6474960
Abstract: A radial compressor is provided for respiration purposes. The sound emissions generated by deflections and separations of the gas flow in the compressor wheel and the housing of the radial compressor and by the high-speed motor of the radial compressor are reduced. This is achieved with a specially shaped passage channel (4) for the volume flow, which exerts a stabilizing effect on the volume flow utilizing the Bernoulli principle of flow. Additional sound reduction is provided by using a separate mass (8) arranged between the motor (6) and the housing (3), which absorbs the sound energy generated by the high-speed motor (6). Also sound reduction is provided by suspending the radial compressor with membranes in a closed capsule.

  • Patent number: 6470672
Abstract: A family of supersonic injectors for use on spaceplanes, rockets and missiles and the like is disclosed and claimed. Each injector maintains a specific constant (uniform) Mach number along its length when used while being minimally intrusive at significantly higher injectant pressure than combustor freestream total pressure. Each injector is substantially non-intrusive when it is not being used. The injectors may be used individually or in a group. Different orientations of the injectors in a group promotes greater penetration and mixing of fuel or oxidizer into a supersonic combustor. The injectors can be made from single piece of Aluminum, investment cast metal, or ceramic or they can be made from starboard and port blocks strapped together to accurately control the throat area. Each injector includes an elongated body having an opening which in cross section is an hour glass (venturi shaped) and the opening diverges in width and depth from the bow section to the stem section of the opening.

  • Patent number: 6471489
Abstract: A self-compensating, energy saving heat transfer unit to provide an efficient means to transfer energy from steam to water in a central heating system. The steam enters a mixing chamber and creates a negative pressure environment. Water in a backwater pipe, which is at a lower temperature and pressure, is absorbed into the mixing chamber where energy is passed from the steam to the water. The water then leaves the first mixing chamber and enters a second mixing chamber where compensation water is added to make up for the possible loss of water that may occur in the central heating system. The heated water then exits the heat transfer unit and goes back into the central heating system. After being cooled in the central heating system, the water then reenters the heat transfer unit at the backwater pipe and continues the cycle over again.

  • Patent number: 6468049
Abstract: An air compressor capable of being mounted across a lifting jack is disclosed. The air compresssor outer housing has a lower section that has a inverted “u” shape cavity to be mounted across the two vertical side plates of the lifting jack to be combined into a single unit. Therefore the air compressor can be stored, transported or operated. Within the outer housing of the air compressor, on each side face there is a cavity with a cover for opening and closing. These cavities create storage for the power-cord and hose/connector when not in use. The top surface inside the inverted “u” section is formed with a sloping angle approximately matching the sloping top edge of the two vertical plates. This allows the air compressor to be clamped in an approximate horizontal inclination for easier operation.

  • Patent number: 6447259
Abstract: An energy recovery device includes at least one cylinder, a piston slidable in the cylinder, a first valve for selectively connecting one end of the cylinder to waste liquid at a first relatively high pressure and to drain and a second valve for allowing feed liquid to enter the other end of the cylinder at a second lower pressure via a feed liquid entry port and to be discharged via a feed liquid discharge port from the other end of the cylinder in response to movement of the piston caused by waste liquid entering the one end of the cylinder. A rod which extends from the other end of the cylinder and into but not through the piston, ensures that the area of the piston acting on the feed liquid is less than the area of the piston acted upon by the waste liquid so that the piston acts as a pressure intensifier to discharge feed liquid through the feed liquid discharge port at a higher pressure than the pressure of waste liquid entering the one end of the cylinder.
