  • Patent number: 7664603
Abstract: A method of analyzing an electromagnetic wavefield includes the steps of measuring the electric and magnetic fields at at least one receiver, formulating a respective spatial domain filter in respect of each of mutually orthogonal components of each of the electric and magnetic fields, and applying the filters to the measured acquired data to decompose the wavefield into upgoing and downgoing components.

  • Patent number: 7236909
Abstract: A method for predicting and automatically verifying data assurance of a plurality of data values located in software processes in an e-commerce environment by a pattern recognition module, the method comprising: running the software processes on a data processing device; priming the software processes for creating baseline information based on collected data values; evaluating the baseline information by the pattern recognition module by comparing the collected data values of the baseline information with predetermined data values of predetermined information stored in a baseline database; establishing relationships between the collected data values and the predetermined data values to produce output data; determining whether the output data is valid; flagging data values outside permitted bounds; permitting a user to perform manual data assurance on the data values outside the permitted bounds; and updating the baseline database to include the collected data values of the baseline information without the dat

  • Patent number: 6992282
Abstract: Use of a nebulizer add-gas to reduce metal deposition on the sampling orifices of an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (“ICP-MS”) is disclosed. Specifically, dilute mixtures of Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) in an inert gas have been used to reduce transition metal deposition on the sampling orifices of an ICP-MS, thereby greatly enhancing the stability of the ICP-MS sensitivity over time without corroding the internal parts and/or chemically attacking the cones of the ICP-MS.

  • Patent number: 6759664
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus for curing an article that is passing through the apparatus, wherein the article is being cured by ultraviolet radiation curing. The present invention most commonly applies to the field of fiber optics, and the manufacture of optical fibers and fiber optic cables or ribbons. The present invention comprises a hollow tubular UV light emitting device (bulb) and a UV transparent tube where the bulb is disposed around the tube creating a space between the tube and the bulb. The article to be cured passes through the center of the tube along with an inert gas, where the inert gas is either cooled or heated depending on the application of the apparatus. A UV transparent cooling medium is passed through the space between the tube and the bulb to provide cooling for the apparatus, preventing heat damage from the bulb.

  • Patent number: 6753525
Abstract: Techniques for determining the composition of a specimen under inspection by measuring backscatter electron emissions and then estimating the atomic number of the specimen are described. Typically, this technique is useful for inspecting features, such as defects, upon very small specimens such as semiconductor wafers. Charged particle beams are typically required to cause backscatter electrons to emanate from a specimen. One embodiment of the present invention involves measuring the backscatter electron count or current of a reference sample for which the atomic number is known. Another embodiment involves the use of an atomic number lookup table that is organized by feature size parameters and normalized backscatter electron counts or currents.

  • Patent number: 6734426
Abstract: A probe scanning device has a first tubular member extending in a z direction. A second tubular member has a rear end portion extending into the first tubular member to define a space between an inner peripheral surface portion of the first tubular member and an outer peripheral surface portion of the second tubular member. A probe tip is mounted on a front end portion of the second tubular member. A viscous material is disposed in the space between the first tubular member and the second tubular member. A moving mechanism reciprocally moves the first tubular member in an xy direction, and a voice coil motor drives the second tubular member towards the first tubular member in the z direction. A drive mechanism has a coarse adjustment mode for coarsely moving the probe tip toward a surface of a sample and a measurement mode for fine movement of the probe tip in the z direction to maintain a given relationship between relative positions of the probe tip and the sample surface after coarse movement.

  • Patent number: 6730904
Abstract: An electrodynamic ion guide for a mass spectrometer comprises multiple sections having different guiding field central axes. At least one of the guiding fields can be an asymmetric guiding field having a quadrupole component and a dipole component. The ion guide can be positioned in a guide chamber with the first field central axis facing an inlet aperture and the second field central axis facing an outlet aperture. The ion guide allows the efficient use of a guide chamber with no line of sight from the inlet aperture to the outlet aperture, such that undesired liquid droplets entering the guide chamber through the inlet aperture do not exit through the outlet aperture. In the preferred embodiment, the ion guide comprises a plurality of longitudinally-concatenated, progressively narrowing segments, each segment including four flat plates arranged symmetrically about a central geometric axis.

  • Patent number: 6717660
Abstract: A light monitoring system provides a sensing unit coupled to a luminaire. The sensing unit monitors both the input and the output of the luminaire for both current and voltage. In this manner, a variety of problems with the luminaire can be detected by the sensor and this information can be passed to monitoring equipment that is either hard-wired or remotely coupled to the sensing unit.
