  • Patent number: 4601224
Abstract: A hot wire cutting system for cutting a pattern shape in a block of polyfoam for use as a casting mold for a metal shielding block to be used in radiotherapy treatments is described. The system provides proportioned current responsive to deflection of the hot cutter wire in order to cancel the deflection and maintain the wire in its optimal central cutting position. The hot cutter-wire preferably passes through a field which provides fine vibratory motion of the cutting wire allowing use of lower wire temperatures to effect the cutting. The system may include optical means for determining the accuracy of the profile cut in the polyfoam block.

  • Patent number: 4599927
Abstract: A tool elevation and bevel adjustment machanism for a direct drive power tool (e.g., a direct drive table saw) is disclosed in which the power tool's drive motor is mounted on a plate which is pivotally suspended below the work table of the power tool. A working tool (e.g., a circular saw blade) is mounted on the rotor shaft of the motor. The plate with the motor mounted thereon is selectively pivotal with respect to the work table by means of a screw linkage such that the plate, together with the tool, may be selectively adjusted with respect to the table such that the tool is either perpendicular to the work table or is at a desired bevel angle with respect to the work table. Additionally, the motor is pivotally mounted on the plate for arcuate movement with respect to the plate.

  • Patent number: 4599925
Abstract: A system for cutting fiberboard wherein a table is provided for supporting the fiberboard with a cutter mounted above the table whereby the cutter is adapted to engage the insulation. The cutter is movable vertically for adjusting its position relative to the insulation and the mount for the cutter is provided with a drive whereby the cutter can be driven longitudinally and transversely of the table for cutting the fiberboard into various shapes. A hold-down device is associated with the cutter for movement therewith and for pressing against the insulation during the cutting operation to thereby prevent displacement of the insulation relative to the table. The cutter preferably comprises a cutting blade rotatably supported on a vertical shaft with the shaft and blade having freedom of movement during a cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 4597316
Abstract: An apparatus for unwinding a roll of a thin belt-like discrete sheet material (hereinafter referred to as a "web") including paper, plastic film, fabric, metal and the like includes a cutter mechanism for cutting the forward end portion of the web of the web roll with the core and the forward end portion of the web being previously fixed in the winding direction, a nip mechanism for clamping the forward end portion of the web after the web is cut, and an unwinding shaft to be coupled to the core of the web roll, the cutter mechanism and the nip mechanism together with the unwinding shaft being linearly movable to and from a web roll storing position. The unwinding shaft position is movable, while the web roll supply position is stationary, so that the space for installing the apparatus can be minimized. Furthermore, the apparatus has a nip mechanism for clamping the forward end of the web, whereby the web roll can be delivered in a state where the forward end of the web is clamped.

  • Patent number: 4592430
Abstract: A tool has a housing, a reversible fluid-pressure operated rotary motor which is arranged to drive a bit holder via reduction gear boxes and a clutch which is designed to slip at a predetermined torque. When a trigger is pressed, pressure air is delivered via a valve to the motor, and in a first position of the valve the motor is driven in a forward direction. When the predetermined torque is reached, the clutch slips and displaces an actuator which opens another valve. This in turn creates a pressure differential across the valve which causes it to move to its second position in which pressure air is delivered to the motor to drive it in the reverse direction. When the trigger is released, the valves return to their original positions.

  • Patent number: 4582144
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a percussive tool having a piston and a ram slidably mounted within a cylinder which is axially displaceable. An air chamber is defined in front of the ram, and the cylinder has exhaust openings formed therein. With the cylinder in its retracted position, the exhaust openings communicate with the front air chamber so that the air cushion therein is vented during forward movement of the ram, and with the cylinder in its advanced position, the exhaust openings are closed to seal the air chamber so that the ram is limited in its rearward movements.
