  • Patent number: 5123887
Abstract: An apparauts for placing a printer-slotter in positions where it processes sheets of corrugated paper. The printer-slotter includes a feeding unit for feeding the sheets, processing units, and differentials connected with the processing units. The apparatus comprises a position detector for detecting the position of the kicker of the feeding unit, positioning controllers connected with a central control unit (CCU), and sensors detecting the angular positions of the rotating cylinders included in the printing units and in the creaser-and-slotter unit. The sensors are connected with the positioning controllers, respectively. The CCU compares the position of the kicker with the positions at which the processing units process the sheets. The CCU controls the differentials in such a way that the position of the kicker corresponds to the positions at which the processing units process the sheets.

  • Patent number: 5096338
Abstract: A throw-away insert having straight cutting edges defined adjacent the periphery thereof, arcuately curved corner portions extending between adjacent ones of the cutting edges, and a rake face having a center land. In the rake face, chip breaker grooves are formed near the corner portions. Each breaker groove adjoins the center land along a line inclined with respect to one of the adjacent cutting edges and is inclined with respect to the direction of thickness of the insert. An ellipsoidal recess is formed in the bottom surface of each breaker groove across the boundary between the center land and the breaker groove. The ellipsoidal recesses have a major axis extending parallel to the borderline between the center land and the breaker groove.

  • Patent number: 5083887
Abstract: A helical cutting tool having a plurality of cutting inserts of quadrilateral configuration removably attached to seats formed in the cutting tool, with each insert including a cutting edge extending in the axial direction bounded on opposite sides by a pair of parallel, radially-extending edges. The cutting inserts are disposed in a helical array in which the cutting edge of each insert is spaced in the circumferential direction from the seat of the next adjacent insert and is in overlapping relationship in the axial direction with the cutting edge of the next adjacent insert, and in which the radially-extending edges of each insert are in overlapping relation with the radially-extending edges of the adjacent inserts, such that the cutting edges of all the inserts define a continuous, non-interrupted, cutting line of stepped configuration.

  • Patent number: 5049122
Abstract: An apparatus for stripping the scrap portion from a die cut blank includes a stripper pin carrier providing a pattern of stripper pins supported in a resilient compressible material layer in which the stripper pins are demountably embedded. The stripper pins may be inserted into the reslient layer to provide a pattern or patterns which will accommodate virtually any size, shape and location of scrap portions to be stripped from a blank. The stripper pins can be removed and reinserted in a different pattern to accommodate a different run of blanks of corrugated paperboard or the like. Programmable robotic control may be used for pin placement and removal. The stripper pin pattern, location and rotation are synchronized with operation of the upstream cutting die such that the die cut blanks move continuously under the stripper roll for automatic scrap stripping.

  • Patent number: 5037369
Abstract: Flexible drapable sheets, such as cloth sheets or garments, are folded and stacked. A first horizontal conveyor conveys the garments past an automatic sewing machine to a lifting device which engages a middle portion of the garment and stuffs it into the inlet of a vertical second conveyor formed from two sets of horizontally spaced conveyor tapes. At a discharge end of the second conveyor, the garments are discharged onto a receiving surface formed by a number of bent wire sections interleaved with the conveyor tapes of the second conveyor. The receiving surface is flipped over (pivoted about a horizontal axis) to flip the folded over garment onto a platform above the first conveyor. The garments are stacked to a desired height on the platform.
