  • Patent number: 4700997
Abstract: An electrical connector for removably attaching a flat electrode to a conducting cable is shown. Flat, conductive upper and lower jaws are connected at the rear by flexible, resilient spring means, and are spaced apart at the front. The jaws are mounted within a housing, and are surmounted by a slide actuator having a finger movable member passing through a slot in a housing roof. The actuator slides on a guide means having a front planar surface and a rear planar surface higher than the front planar surface, the two planar surfaces connected by a ramp in a transition area. In the forward position, the actuator compresses the jaws together on the surfaces of the flat electrode to tightly hold the electrode in a locked conductive connection, and simple finger movement of the actuator releases the electrode.

  • Patent number: 4697864
Abstract: A high density receptacle has a right-angled configuration having pins extending from a mounting face for interconnection to a printed circuit board. A second face is mountable to a bulkhead and has three rows of pins mounted in a cavity recessed from the second mounting face for interconnection to a matable plug having socket contacts. The contacts within the receptacle are disposed in three tiers, the contacts being bent around mandrels to form the right-angled bend. Below the mandrels is a contact locating plate having contact receiving slots in line with the contacts. The upper and lower row of contacts are laterally aligned with each other and with a first contact receiving slot. The first slot has two widths, and has a rib extending down along the edges of the slot. When the contacts are placed in the slot, the ribs interferingly hold the contacts in place.

  • Patent number: 4696524
Abstract: A robot arm has a tool connected thereto through a coupling apparatus including an inner assembly attached to the robot arm and an outer assembly attached to the tool. When the inner assembly has its outer surface mating with an inner surface of the outer assembly, a piston in the inner assembly is pneumatically moved to lock the inner and outer assemblies to each other. The piston movement causes radial movement of balls, which are mounted in a retainer of the inner assembly, away from the piston so that the balls will be retained beneath a cam locking ring of the outer assembly whereby the inner and outer assemblies remain locked when the pneumatic pressure is removed. The outer surface of the outer assembly has a mounting plate for attachment to the tool to be connected to the robot arm.

  • Patent number: 4695111
Abstract: A multicontact electrical connector comprises an insulating housing having a substrate-receiving face. A trough-like opening extends into the face for reception of a substrate. In the housing are spaced-apart terminals having free ends which are proximate to the substrate-receiving face and fixed ends which are proximate to an inner end of the opening. Contact surfaces are on the free ends for contacting spaced-apart terminal pads on the substrate. Contact engagement camming means are provided for flexing the terminals and moving the free ends from the opening allowing the substrate to be placed in the opening under reduced insertion force conditions. As the free ends of the terminals are subsequently moved, the contact surfaces of the free ends will be resiliently biased against the terminal pads. Contact wipe camming means are provided to move the contact surfaces across the terminal pads as normal force occurs permitting a wiping action to take place.

  • Patent number: 4691972
Abstract: A solderless connector for effecting the connection between a multi-layer flexible circuit and other electronic circuit devices is presented. A first embodiment of the present invention is characterized by wrapping separated layers of a two or more layer flexible circuit about an elastomeric resilient member such that the terminal ends of each layer are provided on one side of the resilient member. In a second embodiment of the present invention, a multi-layer flexible circuit is provided with successive steps formed in each layer wherein the terminating portions of each circuit layer have a progressively longer length. This stepped multi-layer flexible circuit is then used in conjunction with a correspondingly stepped rigid retainer plate wherein a resilient elastomeric member is positioned between the stepped flexible circuit and the steps of the rigid retainer plate such that uniform pressure is maintained on all layers during interconnection with another electronic circuit device.

  • Patent number: 4690476
Abstract: Matable electrical connectors mounted on cables are secured by first and second pairs of flexible straps. Each strap is secured at one end to one of the connectors and extends from the attached end to a free end of its connector. One pair of straps has relatively rigid rings secured at their free ends. The other pair of straps have mating fastener parts separated by a hinge section adjacent their free ends. The second straps are threaded through the rings on the other straps such that the rings lie adjacent the hinge sections. Subsequently, the second straps are folded at the hinge sections and the fastener parts attached to secure the straps. The attached ends of the straps can be secured to the cables and connectors by wire ties.

  • Patent number: 4685752
Abstract: The electrical connector is physically attached to the external surface of a metallic structure (and which might contain flammable fluid) solely by virture of an annular layer of resinous adhesive. The annular adhesive layer is carried by the centrally-open lower-side of a frame member to provide vertically aligned central-openings for the adhesive and the frame member lower-side. At least one electrically conductive and upwardly deflectable contact member is located within the frame member and includes a contact member lower free-end protruding through the vertically aligned central-openings so that the free-end is initially disposed below the adhesive layer. However, once the electrical connector is physically adhesively attached to the metallic structure external surface, the contact member free-end is in electrically conductive abutment against the metallic structure external surface, and hence, is substantially co-elevational with the adhesive layer physical attachment.
