Patent number: 6160702Abstract: A portable computer that uses multiple sub-batteries, that are the collective equivalent of one regular computer battery, that are serially connected to power a portable computer. The sub-batteries each contain a small number of battery cells and are connected to the main circuit board, or mother board, of the portable computer to supply power to the portable computer. An electric connecting means may be adapted for connecting two sub-batteries to the motherboard. The multiple sub-battery system allows a more flexible layout design for the installation of various internal components inside of the portable computer. Thus, the small sized battery seats can be placed in various, priorly unusable space, places. Now portions of the computer's battery system can be stored in the corners of the housing, or in narrow spots between other internal components.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1998Date of Patent: December 12, 2000Assignee: SamSung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Chun-Soo Lee, Jae-Wook Kim

Patent number: 6122163Abstract: A hard disk drive is removably insertable into a portable computer base housing through a first opening therein to position the disk drive in a side-by-side relationship with a battery pack removable from within the housing through a second opening therein. In response to the insertion of the disk drive, a security latch mechanism within the housing releasably locks the disk drive therein. The latch mechanism has a movable release portion which is disposed within the housing, with manual access to the release portion being blocked by the battery pack which must be removed to permit the release portion to be operated to allow the disk drive to be removed from the housing. A latch member is positioned on a bottom exterior side portion of the housing and is operable to permit removal of the battery pack from the housing to provide access to the interior disk drive latch mechanism release portion.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1998Date of Patent: September 19, 2000Assignee: Compaq Computer CorporationInventors: Lawrence A. Patent number: 6067233Abstract: A mounting brace and cable management apparatus includes a rigid bar including a body portion. The body portion includes a first end and a second end. A first leg portion extends substantially perpendicular from the first end. A second leg portion extends substantially perpendicular from the second end. A first flange portion extends from the first leg portion. A second flange portion extends from the second leg portion. The first and second flange portions each include an opening for receiving a fastener to fasten the first and second flange portions to a cabinet. The rigid bar can be mounted in a first position for securing an electronic module to the cabinet or a second position for routing cables. The rigid bar contacts a surface of the electronic module to prevent vertical movement of the electronic module within the cabinet when the rigid bar is mounted in the first position.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1998Date of Patent: May 23, 2000Assignee: 3Com CorporationInventors: Susan I. Patent number: 6067224Abstract: A portable information processing apparatus includes a body having an opening at a top wall thereof, a display unit mounted for pivotal motion on the body, a speaker mounted in an upwardly directed condition in the body below the opening, and a plurality of baffles mounted in the opening for pivotal motion between a first position in which the baffles substantially close up the opening and a second position in which the baffles are inclined by a predetermined angle with respect to the top wall of the body. The portable information processing apparatus further includes a guide member mounted for movement between an advanced position and a retracted position, and a motion conversion mechanism for converting linear motion of the guide member into pivotal motion of the baffles. When the display unit is closed, then the guide member is moved to the retracted position and the baffles are pivoted to the first position in which they substantially close up the opening.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1998Date of Patent: May 23, 2000Assignee: Fujitsu LimitedInventor: Atsunobu Nobuchi
