    Abstract: A detachable mount for a telescopic sight which can be operated using only one latching mechanism. The mount uses a front base attached to the ring of a rifle receiver and a rear base attached to the bridge of a rifle receiver. The upper surfaces of both the front and rear bases open into a pair of slots. A separate scope mount is attached to a scope sight by conventional means. Two sets of lugs descend from the lower surfaces of this scope mount. These sets of descending lugs are configured to fit securely within the slots in the front and rear bases when the scope mount is placed over the bases. The forward facing surfaces of the rear set of descending lugs mate with a corresponding set of rearward facing surfaces in the slots within the rear base. These sets of mating surfaces are offset from the vertical to create a wedging effect that pulls the rear of the scope mount down when it is pushed forward relative to the rifle receiver.

    Abstract: A nuclear power plant (18) and its heat exhanger (26) are enclosed in an envelope (22) which is suspended above a bored shaft (14) from a support stem (30). When appropriate, the stem (30) can be melted by a furnace (34) to drop the envelope (22) to the bottom of the shaft (14). Sand (42) can then be dropped onto the envelope (22) through a drainage pipe (46). While the nuclear power plant (18) is operating and suspended in the shaft, spent fuel rods (70) are dropped into a sand blasting machine's hopper (130), mixed with sand and dropped into a bag (134) containing a small explosive device. The bag (134) is then dropped to the bottom of the shaft (14) and the explosive detonated to scatter the contents of the bag (134). Optionally, more sand or earth is then added to reduce heat and radiation to acceptable levels.

    Abstract: A method and device for cooling a gun barrel wherein coolant is provided to the gun barrel via a nozzle arranged at the downstream end of a pressure feed line arrangement. The coolant is originally conveyed from a reservoir into a pressure cylinder, while the pressure feed line between the pressure cylinder and the nozzle is closed. Thereafter, the coolant in the pressure cylinder is placed under a predefined operating pressure. Prior to firing a round, the pressure feed line is opened, so that the coolant flows to the gun barrel before firing. When firing a shot, the coolant in the gun barrel is compressed to a pressure above the predetermined operating pressure by the firing gases and pushed out of the gun barrel. In the process, the coolant is expanded into a buffer reservoir adjacent to the nozzle and is injected back into the gun barrel after the gas pressure built up has been reduced to the predetermined operating pressure.

    Abstract: Shown is a locking interface assembly that facilitates the integration of a commercial Long Gun Barrel tube with an existing gun mount of a conventional Tank. The interface assembly allows the non-conforming tube to be fitted to the mount in a precise fashion, eliminating clearances between the mount and tube, permitting re-tightening of elements that become loose during high inertial loadings. The interface assembly is comprised of a thrust nut, bearing, retaining ring, king nut, adapter, pin, nut key, locking pin, retainer pin, retaining ring key, key retainer pin and screw. The retaining ring is slid over the tube, followed by the a coupling subassembly comprised of the bearing and the thrust nut. The coupling subassembly engages the tube shoulder to prevent the bearing from rotating. The king nut engages the tube to capture the bearing against the tube shoulder and to prevent the bearing from moving with respect thereto.

    Abstract: A neutron spectrometer for spacecraft is provided by a series of substrates covered by a solid-state detector stacked on an absorbing layer. As many as 12 substrates that convert neutrons to protons are covered by a layer of absorbing material, acting as a proton absorber, with the detector placed within the layer to count protons passing through the absorbing layer. By using 12 detectors the range of neutron energies are covered. The preferred dodecahedron embodiment of the neutron spectrometer is a solid, polyethylene dodecahedron assembly with 12 surface facets covered by a solid-state detector stacked on an absorbing layer composed of aluminum. Each absorbing layer is constructed with a different thickness according to the minimum and maximum energies of neutrons in the spectrum.

    Abstract: The present invention is an adjustable-length stock for a shoulder fired weapon, which preferably includes an extendible shoulder piece installed on a shortened gun stock. The extendible shoulder piece preferably includes a butt plate for placement against the shoulder of a user, and a telescoping connection between the butt plate and the shortened gun stock. The connection may have at least one support rod and preferably two support rods telescopically sliding within their respective support tubes. After adjustment, the stock is locked at the selected length, thereby fixedly holding a desired length. The preferred two connections between the butt plate and the gun stock are vertically-distanced as much as possible, in order to stabilize the butt plate. The system preferably also uses a bipod for forward support of the weapon while being used by the adolescent. This system may be used to teach adolescents how to fire such a weapon.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for inhibiting stress corrosion cracking occurring on steam generator tubes in the secondary side of nuclear power plants and an inhibitor therefor. The method comprises supplying cerium boride as an inhibitor for stress corrosion cracking into the secondary feed water of the nuclear power plants. The method according to the present invention improves resistance of stress corrosion cracking three times or higher than no inhibitor, and two times or higher than the conventional inhibitor. In particular, the method according to the present invention shows a superior inhibiting effect in the lead-contaminated environment such that the complete inhibition of stress corrosion cracking can be achieved. As thus, the method can reduce the unexpected stop of operating nuclear power plants caused by the stress corrosion cracking on steam generator tubes, thereby reducing the cost required for maintaining and repairing the tubes.
