Abstract: A method includes heating a sulfonated polyester resin in an organic-free solvent, adding a solution of silver (I) ion to the heated resin in water to form a mixture, reducing silver (I) to silver (0) by heating the mixture from about 65° C. to about 90° C., thereby forming an emulsion of composite particles comprising a sulfonated polyester matrix and a plurality of silver nanoparticles disposed within the sulfonated polyester matrix, and allowing the silver nanoparticles to agglomerate into a silver nanodendrite structure.

Abstract: Hydroxypolyamides, hydroxypolyamide products, and post-hydroxypolyamides are disclosed as gel forming agents. Hydroxypolyamides and post-hydroxypolyamides are prepared from known methods. Hydroxypolyamide products are produced from a modified polymerization procedure which utilizes strong base for deprotonation of ammonium salts from the esterification of stoichiometrically equivalent polyacid:polyamine salts. The hydroxypolyamide products are capable of gel formation at lower concentrations than hydroxypolyamides and post-hydroxypolyamides from the known methods of preparation, and are therefore superior gel forming agents.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides an adhesive composition comprising derivatives of native lignin and an isocyanate-based binder such as methylene diphenyl diisocyanate. The present compositions may further comprise formaldehyde-based resins such as PF, UF, and MF. While not wishing to be bound by theory, it is believed that incorporating derivatives of native lignin in isocyanate compositions will reduce incidence of pre-curing.

The polyarylene sulfide resin composition has excellent mechanical properties and mold releasing properties and the molded product prepared from the polyarylene sulfide resin composition exhibits good adhesion to epoxy resins.
Abstract: Materials and methods for implementing engineered aggregates in metamaterials are provided. The engineered aggregates may be tuned to oscillate resonantly under the influence of an external force improving the dynamic performance of the metamaterial by impeding dynamic excitation. The engineered aggregate generally comprise a multilayer resonant structure having at least a relatively heavy inner core surrounded by at least a compliant coating layer. The geometry and stiffness of the relative layers can be tuned to engineer a desired resonant frequency response within the aggregate for a chosen frequency range. The engineered aggregates are disposed in a matrix material to form a metamaterial. The engineered aggregates may be disposed within a mortar matrix to form a concrete metamaterial suitable for use, for example, in structural applications, including bunkers, shelters, etc.
