  • Patent number: 4754267
Abstract: Graphics display system having a moving cursor, such as a cursor, for selecting a displayed entity with the capability of determining which one of several lower level entities in the vicinity of the cursor is to be selected. The correlation of a cursor with a entity intended to be selected is performed by calculating an index that does not represent the actual distance, which is time consuming, but rather represents a value, more quickly calculated, such that the size order among the indices is the same as the size order of the distances they represent.

  • Patent number: 4752053
Abstract: A railway vehicle motion detector that monitors vibrations within the vehicle and the acceleration thereof to provide an indication of the condition of motion of the vehicle. The motion detector is adapted to be mounted on any railway vehicle, and in particular on the last vehicle of a railway train, and to be incorporated into a system that monitors and remotely displays a plurality of train status conditions. The motion detector includes a transducer (10) that converts the vehicle vibrations and acceleration into an electrical output signal. A velocity circuit (12) selectively passes and integrates a range of frequencies of the transducer output signal that are reliable indicators of vehicle motion to obtain a velocity signal having a magnitude that is proportional to a change in the velocity of the vehicle and a polarity that is indicative of the direction of a change in velocity.

  • Patent number: 4751510
Abstract: A DTE can control the modems attached thereto by transmitting command messages over the data path and analyzing report messages supplied by the modems in return. Each command message is identified by a specific header. A command message intended for a remote modem (34) is intercepted by the local modem (30) and reformatted so as to obtain a supervisory message that is then transmitted at the rate of one bit per baud. A command message intended for a remote multichannel modem (48) is transmitted either by a supervisory message or in the data mode of operation.

  • Patent number: 4749993
Abstract: An arrangement provides for the wireless transmission of a measuring signal from a sensor to an evaluating unit by a pair of first electrical coils that are temporarily inductively coupled with one another. The sensor is supplied with energy by a second pair of electrical coils that are also temporarily inductively coupled with one another. The sensor includes a power supply circuit means for receiving a low-frequency energy signal from the second pair of electrical coils and supplies an energy signal to a transmitting oscillator means. The transmitting oscillator means responds to at least one measured physical quantity and provides a medium-frequency measurement signal to be transmitted over the first pair of electrical coils. When used in a tire pressure control system, this arrangement provides for a reliable transmission of signals over a relatively large transmission path without strict mounting tolerances, while complying with governmental regulations.

  • Patent number: 4749992
Abstract: A remote utility reading and control system includes a central utility use data bank which communicates by communications link with a plurality of relay modules located at power sub-distribution transformers. Each relay module separately addresses and communicates by PLC with a number of site units in its locality. The site units may include on/off controls for buildings, light systems or single pieces of equipment, or may include utility meters or real power meters. The PLC communication utilizes error checking and message verifying to acquire valid status or measurement signals, which are then transmitted to the central data bank. A CRC error code identifies faulty messages. After multiple interrogation, five responses are stored, and a message is confirmed only when three of five reponses are identical. Systems for electricity, water, and gas are described.

  • Patent number: 4748447
Abstract: In a timing signal generating apparatus for generating a timing signal showing that a rotating member has reached a target rotational angle position, the apparatus comprises a first generator for generating scale pulses every time the rotating member rotates N degrees, a second generator for generating a reference pulse used for discriminating a prescribed scale pulse from other scale pulses, and a calculator for performing a calculation in which a target rotational angle position of the rotating member is the dividend and N is the divisor and outputs first and second calculation data representing the quotient A and the remainder B respectively. The apparatus is responsive to the reference pulse, the scale pulses and the result of the first calculator and produces a first timing pulse indicating the timing when the rotating member has assumed a rotational angle position indicated by N.times.

  • Patent number: 4746919
Abstract: A transmitter unit of a remote control system includes a key function display unit for identifying the function of key elements of the transmitter unit at various steps of a control sequence for one or more controlled devices. The memory for storing character-representative information for identifying the functions of the key elements of the transmitter and corresponding function control instructions is contained in the controlled devices rather than in the transmitter unit. This allows for the addition of new controlled device without modification of the transmitter units.

  • Patent number: 4745397
Abstract: A remote control device for the joint or successive remote control of radio receivers, record players, tape recorders, television receivers and the like comprises a body having a plurality of control buttons for the items of equipment to be remotely controlled. The device further has a plurality of superimposed drop sheets each of which is associated with a specific item of equipment or function type. With the aid of a flap which is pivotally mounted on the body and a gripper provided on the flap, it is possible to raise the drop sheets, so that only that particular sheet required for the desired function type is present on the device. The drop sheets have openings through which the operating buttons can project. In the vicinity of these operating buttons a reference to a specific function is provided on each drop sheet.

  • Patent number: 4743895
Abstract: A capacitive switch is formed of a dielectric layer having a first electrode disposed on or adjacent one surface and a second electrode and a conductive pad, such as a touch pad, disposed on the opposite side of the dielectric layer. The conductive pad and the second electrode are in superimposed relationship to the first electrode. The conductive pad and second electrode may be side by side, with a small gap between or they may be superimposed on one another with a further dielectric layer between. Such switches may be formed into an array and may be combined with a display by being superimposed over a display medium, such as an electroluminescent layer, having a display electrode on one side and the first electrode on the other side. In this arrangement all the components, except the display medium and the display electrode, are of transparent material.
