  • Patent number: 4832333
Abstract: A neck exercising device permits the user to exercise all muscles of the neck. The device includes an elongated headband, the headband having a cushioned layer and a support layer. The ends of the headband have fasteners which enable the headband to be secured around the user's head. The headband also includes a plurality of loops, disposed at intervals along the length of the headband. The device further includes an elastic cord, one end of which has a snap hook capable of engaging any of the loops of the headband. The user attaches the snap hook to one of the loops and pulls on the cord while holding the neck in place. After this exercise has been completed, the user can then remove the snap hook from the loop and fasten it to another loop. When the user again pulls on the cord, a different set of neck muscles will be exercised. The headband need not be removed between these steps. The user need only move the snap hook from one loop to another.

  • Patent number: 4776331
Abstract: A bandage useful, for instance, in medical applications includes a rupturable sheet or strip having encapsulated fluid (liquid or gas). The sheet or strip is disposed between the body portion to be bandaged and the outer surface of the bandage. The sheet or strip ruptues when a predetermined pressure is exceeded, thereby releasing the fluid for indicating that the bandage is applied too tightly. When the fluid is a liquid, such as a dye, the released liquid will stain the bandage. When the fluid is a gaseous substance, the release of the gas will be sensed. When a plurality of strips are used, one strip may contain a liquid and another one a gaseous substance, the strips rupturing at different predetermined pressures.

  • Patent number: 4753438
Abstract: An exercise device is providing for suspending the body above a support surface while a person performs exercises designed to stretch and strengthen the full range of back extensor, abdominal and gluteus maximus muscles. The device includes a pelvic brace which cooperates with a rotatable leg restraining member to position the body, in a cantilevered fashion, above the support surface nearly horizontally and face down preparatory to exercising the back extensor and abdominal muscles. Alternatively, the device can be mounted differently to strengthen and tone the gluteus maximus muscles. Utilizing gravity traction, the exercise device tends to decompress the spinal column while the exercises are being performed.

  • Patent number: 4653751
Abstract: An extremely versatile heavy duty exercise bench (10) integrates the functional features necessary for body development through weight lifting, by providing a manually operable, double adjustable, reversible, tiltable, and sliding seat configuration (15, 20). The seat mounting means (15) includes upwardly facing rails (32) which face complementary flanges (33) on a flange assembly (34) on the bottom of the seat (20). The flanges (33) ride upon the rails (32) and guide longitudinal movement of the seat (20), while leaving the seat (20) free to be lifted manually and reversed. A manually operable clamp (60) secures the seat (20) in position on the mounting means (15) when the seat (20) is in use. Hinges (36,37) and telescoping tubes (41,42) provide for independent adjustment of the tilting of the seat portions (21,22).

  • Patent number: 4640268
Abstract: A muscular rehabilitation apparatus for exercising human body appendages through multiple geometric positions of the appendage with respect to the body including a support position with a curved track adjustably mounted with respect to a base and supported by the base. The track defines an arcuate path which tracks the outer extremity of a human appendage as it pivots about a joint, such as for example the movement of a hand at the end of an outstretched arm as the arm pivots at the shoulder. Another example includes the pivotal movement of a leg about the hip wherein the curved track follows the movement of the foot. A carriage is mounted to move upon the track between the end portions of the track and forms a connection between the appendage extremity such as for example, the hand or the foot with the track.

  • Patent number: 4616822
Abstract: An exercise treadmill is disclosed having a flexible, endless belt entrained around a pair of spaced rollers and having a slider bed disposed under the upper reach of the belt. The slider bed is of a heat-conducting metal plate, and is supported by an open frame such that air may freely flow under the slider bed to carry away heat generated by the upper reach of the belt (with the weight of the runner supported thereon) functionally sliding on the slider bed. The frame, slider bed supports, and slider bed are constructed in such manner as to permit limited vertical flexing movement of these parts when a user runs or walks on the upper reach of the belt supported by the slider bed so as to absorb shock and cushion the impact of the user's feet.

  • Patent number: 4607605
Abstract: A distributor for feeding projectiles to the trajectory of a projectile engaging vane carried by a cylindrical gun in a centrifugal launcher of the type including a rotor having an open central zone, the distributor being defined by a support provided with a transfer zone and a passage for storing a plurality of projectiles that are fed by a jack into the transfer zone for successive engagement by a slide, the latter being periodically advanced in synchronization with rotation of the rotor to engage and bring each projectile against an anvil and in the trajectory of the projectile engaging vane. The slide blocks the passage while in its advanced position, and unblocks the passage when retracted to permit feeding of the projectiles into the transfer zone. An engagable lock maintains the slide in the advanced position in opposition to its retraction.
