  • Patent number: 5652486
Abstract: A speed limiting system for a vehicle such as a forklift truck enables the travel speed of the vehicle to be limited without limiting maximum throttle position or adjusting a governor to limit maximum engine or motor power. The system can be used with combustion engine vehicles or electric vehicles. The system has a rate of travel sensor, preferably a rotation sensor sensing a rotation rate of the vehicle axle or wheel. A rate of travel signal is provided to either an analog or digital speed limiting control system which outputs a logic high speed control signal when the rate of travel signal exceeds a pre-set overspeed limit value for a selected time period. The speed control signal can be used to display or record occurrences of overspeed vehicle travel, or limit engine or motor power in that presence of the speed control signal. A warning system can also be incorporated to warn of high speed travel which is potentially approaching an overspeed condition.

  • Patent number: 5652488
Abstract: A robot welding device with a servo-valve controlled drive for the electrodes and an electrical control for the servo-valves with at least one transducer for actual data on the welding process and an interface for the measurements to a computer unit. By way of a holder program running on the computer, it is possible to freely select the set data assigned to the individual work phases. The comparison between the set values of the holder program and the actual data measurement sensors makes it possible, in conjunction with the interface for the servo valves, to complete the preselected work phases with precision.

  • Patent number: 5650708
Abstract: An inverter control apparatus for driving a polyphase AC motor for preventing abrupt changes in motor drive currents when switching of one phase is stopped. The apparatus includes a signal generator for generating duty signals of drive signals of respective phases on the basis of a generated reference waveform and a signal modifier for selecting one of the duty signals of one phase, holding it at a predetermined level, and modifying the duty signals of other phases according to the value required to hold the selected duty signal. On the basis of three-phase signal voltage levels, a decision is made on voltage fixing phase intervals by a phase decision circuit, and shift values are determined by an adder at every voltage fixing phase interval. Shift values are selected by a multiplexer according to the outputs of the phase decision circuit and added to triangular wave voltage. Resultant sum values are compared with the three-phase signal voltages to form a three-phase PWM signal.

  • Patent number: 5648630
Abstract: A polyphonic electronic musical instrument is provided including a keyboard, an information processing system, e.g., a microprocessor-controlled computer system, and a tone generating device. The processing system processes data received from the keyboard and sends note-on/note-off commands to the tone-producing device. The processing system groups keys of the keyboard into "key sets". Keys within each set occupy different rows of the keyboard. The processing system commands the tone generating device to effectively produce not more than one tone corresponding with each key set at any one time regardless of how many keys within the set are depressed. A key set may operate in "sustain mode," in which depression of a first key produces a tone which sustains without interruption as long as at least any one key of the same set is in depressed position. Alternately, a key set may operate in "repetition mode.

  • Patent number: 5646491
Abstract: A motor having a differential phase back EMF sensing circuit for sensing rotor position includes a stationary assembly with at least three windings. The rotation of the rotor induces a back EMF in the windings. A control circuit energizes each of the windings with a current according to a preselected sequence. A switch network is coupled to the windings and provides two back EMF signals as a function of the back EMF induced in two of the windings when the control circuit is energizing the third winding. A signal processor is coupled to the switch network and produces a difference signal representative of a difference between the two back EMF signals. An integrator integrates the difference signal to produce an integrated difference signal. The motor includes a reference signal generator which produces a reference signal and a comparator which produces a trigger signal when the integrated difference signal exceeds the reference signal.

  • Patent number: 5642004
Abstract: A power supply for standby circuits for an electrical consumer which separates both the electrical consumer and the power supply from the mains when in standby mode. The necessary power is supplied by a storage component backed up by an alternative voltage source. A voltage detector monitors the state of charge of the storage component and connects the circuit of the power unit to the mains as necessary. This power supply is suitable both for standby circuits of electrical consumers and for devices themselves or simply for control components and remote-control receivers on devices. Since a power unit is only connected to the mains when necessary, considerable energy savings are achieved.

  • Patent number: 5640059
Abstract: A power supply system including a thermal current limiting device operating due to high temperatures. At predetermined temperatures, the device acts to incrementally control the output of a power supply. An implementation of the device may be found in a voltage or power regulator wherein a constant output voltage or power is desired. As temperature increases, the power supply system is not switched off, rather current output is adjusted in a controlled manner thereby eliminating the need for the device to be entirely shut down for a time period. A back-up battery is used to provide supplementing current needed by the load.

  • Patent number: 5639979
Abstract: An audio synthesis circuit is disclosed that can generate multiple audio tones, or operators, each having different harmonic characteristics. The audio synthesis circuit can be used in a time-multiplexed fashion so that the multiple audio tones, or operators, can be computed in a single audio synthesis cycle and then combined to form voices/channels. Each audio synthesis cycle can be divided into as few as 0 or as many as 48 time slots, meaning that as many as 48 operators can be played simultaneously. The disclosed circuit provides a preset organization of the 48 operators into 12 2-operator channels and 6 4-operator channels. These channels can be played in various system modes, including backward-compatible 2- and 4-operator modes in which the programming of the operators is restricted, and an enhanced mode, in which the operators can be freely programmed. In the backward-compatible modes, two operators of each 4-operator channel are constrained to be duplicates of a respective 2-operator channel.

  • Patent number: 5637972
Abstract: A rotor position encoder for an electric motor includes a discate member mounted to rotate with the rotor shaft. The encoder has a set of radially extending features formed with angularly evenly spaced leading edges and unevenly spaced trailing edges. The leading edges induce a signal in a sensor that corresponds to the relative timing of power switches for each motor phase, The trailing edges define a cyclical code by which motor controlling circuitry is able to determine the phase of rotation of the rotor and thus establish the correct power switch actuation sequence. An electric motor control system and methods of starting electric motors also provide significant advantages.
