  • Patent number: 9840028
Abstract: Provided is a cleaving method for a glass film (G) including: cleaving, during conveyance of the glass film (G) in a predetermined direction, the glass film (G) continuously along a preset cleaving line (8) extending in a predetermined conveying direction (a) by a thermal stress generated through localized heating performed along the preset cleaving line (8) and through cooling of a locally heated region (H); dividing the glass film (G) in a width direction of the glass film (G); diverting, after the dividing, adjacent divided glass films (10), which are obtained by the dividing, so that the adjacent divided glass films (10) are separated in a front and rear direction of the adjacent divided glass films; and forming a predetermined widthwise clearance between the adjacent divided glass films after the dividing of the glass film (G) and before the diverting of the adjacent divided glass films (10).

  • Patent number: 9829633
Abstract: Methods for cleaving an optical fiber that extends from a ferrule are provided herein. The ferrule can be aligned on a first side of a scribe wire and an unconstrained end of the optical fiber on a second side of the scribe wire. Tension can be applied to the scribe wire with the optical fiber. Relative motion between the scribe wire and the optical fiber can be caused, while the tension is applied with the optical fiber. The scribe wire and the optical fiber can be separated. A fiber optic shard can be cleaved from the optical fiber. The fiber optic shard may include the unconstrained end of the optical fiber.

  • Patent number: 9821388
Abstract: A horizontal band saw machine includes a base, a vertically-movable housing disposed above the base, a pair of wheels that are disposed at a lower portion of the housing and a distance between whose axis lines is changeable, a band saw blade lopped over the pair of wheels, and saw blade guides that are provided on the base. An installation position of the band saw blade is set lower than a cutting end position of a workpiece to be cut by the band saw blade. The housing can move the pair of wheels to the installation position. The pair of wheels can be inserted into an region surrounded by the band saw blade that is set on the saw blade guides when being moved to the installation position with the distance shortened.

  • Patent number: 9809484
Abstract: A bottle cutter has a body having two generally arcuate components connected to each other by straight parallel members permitting one component to slide relative to the other component between an open, non-cutting position and a closed, cutting position. Each arcuate component includes a plurality of an inwardly facing rollers that facilitate rotation of a bottle held by the bottle cutter in the closed, cutting position. A cutting wheel disposed on one of the two components cuts, or at least scores, the bottle as the bottle is rotated. If the bottle is only scored, separation of the top and bottom portions of the bottle may be effected using hot and cold water to induce differential thermal stresses in the glass. The edge may be finished or polished using sandpaper or any other suitable abrasive material.

  • Patent number: 9802854
Abstract: A strengthened glass sheet is separated into undamaged sheet segments by mechanically scribing one or more vent lines of controlled depth into the sheet surface, the depths of the scribed lines being insufficient to effect sheet separation, and then applying a uniform bending moment across the vent lines to effect separation into multiple sheet segments, the vent lines being scribed from crack initiation sites comprising surface indentations formed proximate to the edges of the glass sheet.

  • Patent number: 9730560
Abstract: A paper towel dispenser including a base; a center shaft vertically mounted on the base; a spool mount tube rotatably disposed around the center shaft; a biasing element engaging the spool mount tube and placing it at an angle in relation to the center shaft, and brake elements disposed between the center shaft and the spool mount tube. When a user pulls a free end of a paper towel roll outwardly ion a defined direction, the spool mount tube tilts and the brake elements disengage, allowing the spool mount tube to rotate and also allowing paper towel sheets to pay out. If the user pulls at an angle relative to the center shaft on the free end of the paper towel roll, the brake elements engage and prevent rotation of the spool mount tube, thus allowing the user to tear off and separate the dispensed paper towel sheets.

  • Patent number: 9676108
Abstract: A pivoting arrangement for a shaving device, comprising a pivoting member (10), adapted to support a shaving head, a cradle (11), pivotally supporting the pivoting member, and a spring loading arrangement (13) arranged to bias the pivoting member in a resting position. The spring loading arrangement has a limited active range, so that, when the pivoting member is brought out of the resting position in a first pivoting direction, the spring loading arrangement is prevented from interacting with the pivoting member in a first point of action (14a), and when the pivoting member is brought out of the resting position in a second pivoting direction, the spring loading arrangement is prevented from interacting with the pivoting member in a second point of action (14b). As a result, the resting position will not be dependent on e.g. the spring constants of different springs in the spring loading arrangement.

  • Patent number: 9630797
Abstract: The container may hold a material, such as, plastic wrap. The first container portion may include a first leg with an engagement member. The engagement member may engage the second leg during the cutting process. In addition, the engagement member may disengage from the second leg during or after the cutting process. When the user wishes to cut the material, the user pushes down on the first container portion. The material is held between the engagement member and the second leg at a first location. The third leg may assist in holding the material at a second location. The holding of the material in tension may facilitate the cutting of the material. As the user continues to push down on the first container portion, the engagement member disengages from the second leg. The user can remove the portion of material without opening the first container portion.
