  • Patent number: 7668678
Abstract: A metrological apparatus has a driver (33) that effects relative movement between a support (4) and a measurement probe (8) carriage (7) in a first direction (X) to cause the measurement probe (8) to traverse a measurement path along a surface of an object supported by the support. The measurement probe (8) moves in a second direction (Z) transverse to the first direction as it follows surface characteristics. Respective first and second position transducers (35, 32) provide first and second position data representing the position of the measurement probe in the first and second direction. A calibrator (300) carries out a calibration procedure using measurement data obtained on a surface of known form. The calibrator determines calibration coefficients of an expression relating corrected measurement data and the actual measurement data by using the known form of the reference surface as the corrected measurement data.

  • Patent number: 7653494
Abstract: The present invention is designed to efficiently calculate isotopic distribution in order to simulate mass spectra data for any chemical compound of interest. The simulated spectra considers the various isotopes of the compound based upon a probability calculation that takes into consideration the natural abundance of each isotope of individual elements of the compound. The probability calculation generates a relative probability associated with each isotope species of the subject compound. The simulated spectra are displayed on an x-y coordinate illustrating the calculated formula weight on the abscissa (x-axis) and the intensity of the specific species on the ordinate (y-axis). This theoretical data is then compared to experimental data taken from a mass spectrometer in order to identify the chemical compound at issue.

  • Patent number: 7643945
Abstract: A method of enhancing acoustic pump data for monitoring of pump condition in operation. The enhancement may be in the form of a substantial reduction in the amount of data to be processed by firmware to a much more manageable level. This may be achieved through pre-filtering of acquired acoustic data, computing frequency momentum, and by application of a median filter to the acoustic data. Regardless, a thresholding technique that uses features vector including but not limited to double-threshold derived from statistics of enhanced amplitudes, may be employed whereby enhanced acoustic data is boiled down to a series of potential acoustic events of particular widths. These widths may represent a duration of each acoustic event and be checked for correlation with the speed of the operating speed of the pump.

  • Patent number: 7643949
Abstract: Flowmeters are described in which a sensor signal received from a sensor that is attached to vibratable flowtube, so as to determine properties of a fluid within the flowtube, contains a drive signal component and a coriolis mode component. The flowmeters are operable to determine drive parameters of the drive signal component, as well as coriolis parameters of the coriolis mode component. By analyzing the sensor signal based on the drive signal parameters, and not on the coriolis signal parameters, the flowmeters are able to provide stable and accurate determinations of the properties of the fluid.

  • Patent number: 7610164
Abstract: A system is provided to adjust a separation distance between a read/write sensing head and a data storage medium surface in a hard disk. The thermal expansion of the sensing head based on heat generated by power dissipated through the sensing head is precisely controlled. When electrical resistance is not accurately known, a calibration is performed in which a specific input value is matched to a predetermined reference electrical power. The matching is done through a reference voltage source, that remains at a fixed value, and a calibration factor is successively adjusted through a feedback loop until an optimum value of the calibration factor is obtained. At the conclusion of the calibration process, the feedback loop is disabled and the optimally attained value of the calibration constant is frozen. The electronic circuit to implement the proposed system is based on cost effective CMOS technology.
