  • Patent number: 6733210
Abstract: A revegetation and greening system is used to control erosion and to decorate infertile environments or steep structures. This system comprises one or many revegatation devices. Each device holds self-sufficient materials for growing plant with minimal need for frequent watering or advanced care. A layer of synthetic nets or grids can be placed on the surface of these structures to secure these devices. This system creates a stable and suitable environment for the growth of many plants in various conditions. Furthermore, by using many layers of this system simultaneously, it can provide erosion control and structure decoration in a very short time.

  • Patent number: 6729802
Abstract: A method of abandoning a pipeline (2) being laid by a vessel having an A/R system, wherein a sealine (2, 11, 13) is initially held by a pipe laying and tensioning arrangement. The method includes a step of reducing tension at sea level of the sealine (2, 11, 13), by connecting one or more buoyant members (13) to the end of the pipeline (2). The members (13) are then lowered into the sea, using a line (16). At least one member (13) is connected to the pipeline (2) through a connection (12) which allows pivoting of the member (13) so that the end of the member (13) at the end of the pipeline (2) projects upwardly from the seabed (3).

  • Patent number: 6726405
Abstract: In a method for providing a portable flood barrier (1), flood barrier sections (2, 3, 4) comprising two parallel, spaced apart, inflatable, elongated tubes (5,6 or 5,7) which are joined by a waterproof web (8) are placed on the ground (9) with the side of one of the tubes (6 or 7) facing the flooded area (10), and the other tube (5) facing away from the flooded area (10). Both tubes (5,6 or 5,7) are inflated, and ballast water (13) is filled on the web (8), whereupon, when floodwater (14) rises, the tube (6 or 7) facing the flooded area (10) floats in the floodwater (14) and due to its buoyancy rises, thereby forming a flood barrier (1).

  • Patent number: 6715962
Abstract: A method for assembling and delivering a drivepipe to a drill site. The method has the following steps: The drivepipe is assembled at a shoreline assembly station. Floatation devices are attached to the drivepipe and the drivepipe is floated in the ocean. The drivepipe is towed with tow vessels to a drill site. The drivepipe is delivered in a horizontal orientation to a drilling vessel at the drill site. An upper end of the drivepipe is attached to the drilling vessel and the tow vessels are detached from the drivepipe. The drivepipe is pivoted about its point of attachment to the drilling vessel until the drivepipe is vertically oriented. The buoyancy function of the floatation devices attached to the drivepipe is deactivated. The floatation devices are removed from the drivepipe. The drivepipe is equipped with a driving mechanism and the drivepipe is lowered with a running string from the drilling vessel to the sea bed.

  • Patent number: 6715965
Abstract: Retaining walls are formed from one or more tiers of concrete blocks. Top projections on all except the uppermost tier of blocks are received in recesses in the bottom of blocks in an adjacent upper tier. The top of the retaining wall may be finished with blocks which have a surface portion recessed below an upper edge of the face of the block for extending top soil or other material up to the block face. Alternately, the top blocks may form a drainage ditch which extends along at least a portion of the top of the retaining wall. Blocks used in tiers below the uppermost tier may have troughs suitable for filling with soil and plants. The exposed faces of the blocks are textured and, optionally, may be colored to simulate the appearance of stone or rocks.

  • Patent number: 6712560
Abstract: A floating offshore platform configuration is provided, which decouples pitch, roll, and heave motions from acting on tensioned risers and accommodates the angular displacement induced by floating offshore platform surge and/or sway excursion without inducing bending in the riser at its entrance to the floating offshore platform. The risers are guided by an inner structure that is tethered from the sea floor and centered inside an outer hull structure. Outer hull structure heave, pitch and roll motions are substantially isolated from acting on the inner structure through a connection mechanism, and each riser is allowed to individually expand or contract.

  • Patent number: 6709202
Abstract: A linear modular erosion and sediment control barrier is constructed of fiber logs joined end-to-end, the logs having a maximum length of about 8 feet long. Each fiber log is made of a quantity of loose fibers retained in a tubular casing by a plug. The tubular casing includes an extended section which is peeled back and folds over the end of the coupler fiber log during storage and transportation. When deployed, the extended section is unfolded to receive the end of an adjacent fiber log. The two fiber logs are secured together by a cord and hooks. The combination of a plurality of coupler fiber logs on the surface of a pallet is particularly suited for storing and transporting the logs.

  • Patent number: 6705582
Abstract: An assembly of concrete forms for use in the placement of concrete, the assembly having a pair of longitudinal form members and a ground engaging member that is in contact with at least one of the longitudinal form members. A first longitudinal form member slidably overlaps a second longitudinal form member such that the length of the combination of longitudinal form members is adjustable. Inverted U-shaped channels are provided at the top of each of the longitudinal form members which allow a male/female overlapping relationship and provide a location to receive the ground engaging member. A radius form member includes a longitudinal form member with a horizontal component or inverted U-shaped channel having successively spaced apart slots thereon, so that the radius form member is flexible. To create an angle, a corner forming bar is also provided for the assembly, extending between two of the longitudinal form members.

  • Patent number: 6705802
Abstract: A support device is used to facilitate maintenance of a jacking system of a self-elevating drilling or maintenance platform having a plurality of legs supporting the platform in an operating orientation. The platform includes jacking mechanisms associated with the legs to raise and lower the platform using jacking racks on each leg chord. Support devices temporarily support the platform independent of the jacking mechanisms using a rack chock removably clamped in place on each leg with locking teeth on the rack chock meshed with jacking teeth on the leg's jacking rack. In this manner the platform can be temporarily supported by using removable fasteners to secure a rack chock to each leg chord beneath the platform hull, lowering the platform relative to the legs so that the hull rests on a support seat on each support device, and then disengaging the jacking mechanism from the jacking teeth on the legs for maintenance of the jacking system.

  • Patent number: 6698976
Abstract: Grouting equipment and methods suitable for use in underground water wells, which accomplish their goals by better centering the grouting equipment within a bore hole, even in curved bore holes, in an manner that prevents leakage of the grout into the well. Improved grouting is achieved by using corrugated, bendable incasings and expandable tubes which create a seal between the incasing and the well wall for the grout, and which prevent both contaminated surface water and grout from contaminating the groundwater. The disclosed techniques are implementable in such a manner that grouting does not necessarily need to precede the location of a groundwater nappe.
