  • Patent number: 6176161
Abstract: A damaged screw removing screwdriver includes a handle and a shank extending from the handle. The shank has a distal end for being engaged with slots in the head of a bolt. A plurality of blade portions extend radially outward from the distal end of the shank and each blade portion has a cutting edge and a corner. The handle has a plate attached to the distal end thereof so that the blade portions cut into the material of the head of the bolt by impacting the plate on the handle. By the screwdriver, the bolt having rounded slots in the head can still be rotated.

  • Patent number: 6105474
Abstract: A driver bit tool having an elongate handle that has a central channel through which a predetermined length portion of the bit driver can be inserted. The driver bit is retained within the handle by any suitable means and one or more relatively thin magnets having high energy products are arranged on the side of the handle in close proximity to the driver bit receiving channel for generating a magnetic field which is substantially normal to the handle axis, the field created by the magnet being coupled to the driver bit. The position of the magnets and annular sleeves of magnetizable material are preferably used to optimize coupling of the field to the driver bit to optimize the amount of magnetic field that passes through the accessible operative tip of the driver bit so as to effectively magnetize the exposed driver tip of the bit driver.

  • Patent number: 6055887
Abstract: A power-operated wrench can be equipped with a wrench extension for access to bolts or nuts that are otherwise inaccessible. The wrench extension includes an elongated tubular housing rigidly secured to the wrench power unit for rotatably supporting a wrench extension drive shaft in a vibration-free operating mode. The tubular housing keeps the rotating shaft from vibrating in spite of reactive forces exerted by the bolt or nut on the wrench socket attached to the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5884541
Abstract: An improved screwdriver in which a replaceable bit is removably secured in an axial socket in the end of the mandrel with a slot extending radially inwardly into the socket rearward of the bit. A separate bit removing lever tool is provided having a hook-shaped portion which curves back on itself to a distal end. The hook-shaped is insertable via the slot into the socket to assume a position with the distal end extending forwardly into the socket to engage the rear end of the bit with surfaces of the hook-shaped portion to engage both a forwardly directed engagement surface of the rear of the slot and the side walls of the socket such that pivotal movement of the tool guides and cams the distal end into the socket and into engagement with the bit to urge the bit forwardly out of the socket.

  • Patent number: 5806385
Abstract: A universal socket is described which is suitable for use upon a myriad of fastening means whereupon at least a plurality of pins are capable of longitudinal axial movement in concert and in conformity with contact with a workpiece. This result is achieved by the incorporation of a biasing mechanism on the pins which biases the pins in a normally extended position, but which permits movement to a second retracted position. In one embodiment, the cross-sectional area of the pins is decreased in either a linear or non-linear manner from the outer periphery to the center of the socket. In operation, as the workpiece is inserted into the socket, the pins are moved in a longitudinal axial direction from their normally extended position to the second retracted position in conformity with the shape of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5758552
Abstract: A safety plate apparatus is used with a tool that includes a handle and a head attached to the handle. The tool head has a handle-receiving channel which has a transverse channel dimension. The tool handle has a channel-inserted handle end which is inserted into the handle-receiving channel. The safety plate apparatus includes a plate member which includes a plate length which is greater than the transverse channel dimension. Screws connect the plate member to the channel-inserted handle end of the handle. The plate member includes at least one fastener-receiving channel, and at least one screw connects the plate member to the channel-inserted handle end of the handle. A portion of each screw is passed through a fastener-receiving channel and driven into the channel-inserted handle end of the handle. The fastener-receiving channel includes a chamfered wall.

  • Patent number: 5682800
Abstract: A clutch driver device for releasing torque between a power drill and a screwdriver when the screw being driven reaches a predetermined depth. The clutch mechanism including a hollow release cylinder slideably fitted on a drive shaft integrally formed in coaxial relation with a chuck shank to be inserted into the chuck of a power drill. The release cylinder is movable from a first position where the release cylinder holds several clutch balls against planar faces of a hexagonal end of a drive shank used to drive the screw into the work piece to a second position where the release cylinder releases the clutch balls held against the planar faces of the drive shank so that the screw driving end of the driver is disengaged from the power drill. The release cylinder being moved from the first position to the second position by an actuator sleeve positioned between the work piece and the release cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5551319
Abstract: A marking device with a reciprocating needle. The needle is attached to an armature which reciprocates in a slot in a housing by a crank which is rotated by a motor in the housing. Vibration of the motor and tolerances between the armature and track cause unwanted movements of the needle in a plane perpendicular to the reciprocating motion. Guide bars and bushings connect the armature to the track. Tolerances between the guide bars and bushings are less than tolerances between the armature and track. An armature bracket is detachably connected to the housing in order to partially or fully close off an open end of the track after the armature has been inserted into the track. Guide bars and bushings then connect the armature and the armature bracket. The motor is supported on only one end by bolts extending from a mounting wall inside the housing. A damping plate is positioned between the motor and the mounting wall, and a damping ring is positioned between, and contacts, the damping ring and the housing.

  • Patent number: 5461949
Abstract: A ratchet transfer device is provided for a reversible ratchet handle of a socket wrench set, the handle having a drive end with a ratchet reverse lever and a square peg. The device consists of an elongated generally flat narrow casing. A structure at a first end of the casing, is for rotatively coupling the square peg of the reversible ratchet handle. A component at a second end of the casing is for rotatively engaging a hard to get at hidden hex nut/hex bolt head in a work piece. An element within the casing is for transmitting down its length the action of the square peg of the reversible ratchet handle in the rotatively coupling structure to the rotatively engaging component to turn the hex nut/hex bolt head in the work piece.

  • Patent number: 5440956
Abstract: A unidirectional shutoff tool for closing a gas valve, having a valve stem with a rectangular profile extending from the gas valve. The tool has a head and a handle extending from the head to accommodate the application of leverage to the head. A rectangular receptacle is formed in one face of the head and has two diametrically opposed corners for engaging corresponding corners of the valve stem in order for the tool to be used to rotate the gas valve to the closed position. The receptacle is characterized by the absence of corners that could otherwise be used to engage corresponding corners of the valve stem thereby preventing the tool from being used to open the gas valve. The head is angularly offset from the handle to provide an ergonomically acceptable configuration for the tool.
