  • Patent number: 7889661
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a constrained multipath routing method. In a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network, network conditions and traffic engineering requirements assigned to each link are set. The amount of assignments of each traffic requirement assigned to each link and a minimum value of each maximum link utilization ? are calculated. A traffic rate (Xijkl) in which the degree of resource utilization is minimized in the minimized maximum link utilization ? is calculated using the calculated amount of assignments of each traffic requirement and which is assigned to each link. Multiple paths corresponding to each traffic requirement and traffic division ratios of the multipath are calculated using the calculated traffic rate.

  • Patent number: 7428226
Abstract: A method, apparatus and system provide a seamless, secure roaming solution. Embodiments of the present invention enable secure transmission of IP packets across enterprise security gateways. According to one embodiment, a mobile node on an external network may register with an external home agent using an external home address. The mobile node may also establish a secure path to the security gateway using the external home address and an internal home address. The mobile node may thereafter use the secure path to correspond with nodes on the external network. In other embodiments, the mobile node may use this secure path to register with an internal home agent on a home network, using the internal home address. The mobile node may then correspond with nodes on the home network via the secure path.

  • Patent number: 7260070
Abstract: A gateway provides a multicast packet of information to a plurality of transceiver stations. The plurality of transceiver stations belong to a soft handoff group associated with a mobile unit. The multicast packet of information includes a common traffic section and a plurality of unique control sections. A particular transceiver station receives the multicast packet of information from the gateway and identifies its associated unique control section. The particular transceiver station then sends the common traffic section to the mobile unit according to its associated unique control section.

  • Patent number: 7254126
Abstract: Nodes in a datagram network are arranged to route datagrams in dependence on a batch start time parameter contained in the header of datagrams belonging to a batch. A network operator is thus able to offer a service that is connection-oriented at the batch level, without necessarily being connection-oriented at the message level. This is advantageous to the network operator since it allows the packet flow generated by the user to be re-routed during the transmission of the message. The user can arrange those datagrams which are required to be delivered from the network in the same order as they are supplied to the network into batches. In that way, the user is not adversely affected by route changes made by the network operator in order to improve the performance of the datagram network.

  • Patent number: 7218619
Abstract: A call admission method considering call characteristics and the service level of a subscriber terminal in a CDMA mobile communication system is provided. When a new call is requested in a situation where it cannot be admitted, a call being serviced with a lower service level than the new call is held for admission of the new call. If the held service can be resumed under some circumstances, it is resumed.

  • Patent number: 7206318
Abstract: A method for the improved exploitation of resources between telecommunications networks and IP networks (for example, corporate LANs or the public Internet) for reducing the costs of permanent connections (always-on connections) and for optimizing IP address economy. During the periods when there is no traffic, the connection between the telecommunications network and the IP network is deactivated, while the subscriber-side connection is maintained. When the subscriber has new data traffic, the RC automatically activates the IP connection concerned to the ISP with reversion to the stored authentication data.

  • Patent number: 7197017
Abstract: A method and apparatus for requesting PPP instances from a packet data services network includes a mobile station configured to send an origination message to a packet data service node (PDSN) at which it has arrived upon leaving the vicinity of another PDSN. The message informs the new PDSN of the new location of the mobile station and indicates both the number of dormant PPP instances associated with the mobile station and a service reference identifier for each such PPP instance. A flag within the message may be used to indicate whether the PPP instances are dormant (i.e., whether the mobile station is engaged in a call). Communications channel resources of packet data services nodes are optimized by reducing the information included in messages from the Packet Control Function network element to the Packet Data Service Node network element, and by reducing the use of Mobile Internet Protocol agent advertisement.

  • Patent number: 7190696
Abstract: A network-processor device comprises a packet-processor for an ingress port that is operative to distribute data flows to a plurality of equal-cost paths for transfer of data toward a given destination. The packet-processor also includes further distribution circuitry for designating a link of a link aggregation by which to channel the data between routers within a part of a selected path. Accordingly, each of the layer distributions—i.e., amongst the higher-level equal-cost-paths and amongst the lower-level link aggregation—are capable of being coordinated by a common, generic packet-processor.

  • Patent number: 7177302
Abstract: Two subscribers A and B are each connected to a network, e.g. by means of a leased line or a dialup connection. Subscriber A sets up a telephone connection to subscriber B. In the course of the telephone connection, a data connection additionally needs to be set up. A service provided by the telephone network operator and an appropriate method taking place on the subscribers data terminal equipment automatically transfer the data network addresses of the subscribers involved in a connection and also the connection configuration of the telephone connection to the subscribers data terminal equipment. This means that a data network connection can automatically be set up for a telephone connection on request.

  • Patent number: 7177325
Abstract: The invention includes a protocol, systems and methods for operating, administering, and maintaining (OAM) physical links in a network that carries packet switched data. A network control point implementing the protocol assigns addresses to all ports of the network, discovers network topology and capabilities, and initializes remote parameters through OAM frames sent to the ports. The OAM protocol maintains all physical transmission links through the communication of OAM frames with information concerning link errors and the status of ports and boxes. The OAM frame has a preamble that is an inverse of a preamble of a data frame, allowing decoupling of the OAM and data services. The OAM frames are initiated and terminated at the physical layer of the network. Ports of the network may include ASIC integrated circuits that create, transmit, receive, and process the OAM frames at the physical layer of the ports.

  • Patent number: 7154910
Abstract: A data transmission method configures a source plug on a source device and a destination plug on a destination device for respectively transmitting and receiving isochronous data packets in non real-time. A stream of non real-time isochronous data packets is formed by first packetizing the data stream into conventional real-time isochronous data packets. Then, either a partial real-time isochronous data packet or multiple real-time isochronous data packets are encapsulated within a data payload portion of a non real-time isochronous data packet depending on the transmission speed. If the transmission speed is less than real-time, then a partial real-time isochronous data packet is encapsulated within the non real-time isochronous data packet. If the transmission speed is greater than real-time, then multiple real-time isochronous data packets are encapsulated within a single non real-time isochronous data packet.

  • Patent number: 7139240
Abstract: A link level flow control technique implements a “pull frame” transmission model in a Fibre Channel network. In one embodiment, frames remain in a first Fibre Channel device until they are requested by a second Fibre Channel device, wherein the second Fibre Channel device does not issue a request unless conditions are such that it can immediately transmit the frame toward its target destination. In another embodiment, a Fibre Channel device provides hardware messaging capability to support the pull model. In yet another embodiment, multiple Fibre Channel devices in accordance with the invention may be coupled to provide high port-count Fibre Channel switches.

  • Patent number: 7133358
Abstract: A transmission unit and a failure recovery method with failure recover functions, which use limited network resources efficiently. A label table manager manages a label table which associates incoming labels related to incoming transmission data with outgoing labels related to outgoing transmission data. Based on the label table, a transmission controller performs label-switching of transmission data. A path set-up unit establishes a loop-shaped protection path that includes a part or whole of transmission links of an existing working path and would allow transmission data to flow in the opposite direction to that of the working path. When a failure occurs, a failure recovery controller changes the association between the incoming and outgoing labels stored in the label table and switches the failed part of the working path to the loop-shaped protection path, thereby restoring the label-switched network.
