  • Patent number: 8743960
Abstract: In one embodiment, the method includes obtaining reference picture information, and determining a first reference picture of the bi-predictive image block. The first reference picture has a co-located image block with respect to the bi-predictive image block. A second reference picture is determined based on a motion vector of the co-located image block. At least one motion vector of the bi-predictive image block is obtained according to the motion vector of the co-located image block and the reference picture type of at least one of the first reference picture and the second reference picture. The reference picture information indicates reference picture types of reference pictures, and the reference picture type being based on temporal distance between a current picture including the bi-predictive image block and the reference picture. The bi-predictive image block is decoded by motion-estimating the bi-predictive image block using the motion vector of the bi-predictive image block.

  • Patent number: 8250392
Abstract: In described embodiments, turn-on time for active portions of an Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) device is improved by storing energy in a corresponding capacitor bank through a bidirectional device from a certain node in the device during an active state, continuing to store the energy when the device enters a Low Power Idle (LPI) state, and then allowing the energy to return to the node through the bidirectional device when the device returns to an active state. During active mode, the bidirectional device controls the capacitor bank so as to charge relatively slowly to store energy, and when the device transitions to LPI, the charge is maintained in the capacitor bank. When the device returns to the active state, the bidirectional device allows the capacitor bank to discharge relatively rapidly to the node, thereby improving the turn-on time of the circuit elements coupled to the node.

  • Patent number: 8169864
Abstract: Provided is an actuator for a pickup, in which end parts of a plurality of suspensions (550A to 550F) of five or more are positioned on a virtual circle (X) formed on a plane by being projected onto the plane including both a focusing direction and a tracking direction. A rolling center (O) defined as a center of the virtual circle (X) is made to coincide with all three, two, or one of a center (Os) of the gravity of a lens holder (600), a center (Os) of the drive force of the lens holder (600), and a center (Os) of the translational force of the suspensions (550A to 550F). Since the rolling center (O) coincides with all three, two, or one of those centers (Os), a rotational moment is not generated on the lens holder (600) and, therefore, generation of unnecessary resonance can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 8149663
Abstract: In response to the trend toward the increase in the number of data layers of optical discs, the invention provides a data erasure method and its optical disc apparatus that enable faster data erasures with a simpler configuration. Test erasures are performed on the test areas T of data layers of an optical disc while the power level Pe of data erasure laser light and the defocus amount ?f of the data erasure laser light from a target data layer are changed. Based on the results of the test erasures, the optimal erasure condition that enables a simultaneous data erasure from the greatest number of data layers is determined. Based on the determined optimal erasure condition, then, the optimal erasure sequence that enables data erasure from all of the data layers with the fewest number of times is determined.

  • Patent number: RE43237
Abstract: The system and method is used for CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) control format recording, whereas the existing disk data is recorded under CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) control format recording. When the PUH receives a laser driver signal, it generates a feed signal and a wobble signal. The feed signal is received by the automatic power control; thereafter the automatic power control generates a first control signal used for causing the laser driver to adjust the laser driver signal. After the ATIP decoder receives the wobble signal, the ATIP decoder generates and outputs ATIP decoded data to the CLV value detector. The CLV value detector receives ATIP decoded data and generates a CLV decoded data to the laser power control. The laser power control receives the CLV decoded data and generates a second control signal used for causing the automatic power control to adjust the first control signal.
