Patent number: 12252127Abstract: The techniques and systems herein are configured for dynamically calculating lane change trajectories. An offset that corresponds to an amount of asymmetry of a lane change trajectory (a zero-offset may be a symmetrical lane change trajectory) is determined for a lane change based on vehicle/driver preferences, road curvature, and/or road conditions. The offset is then used to calculate the lane change trajectory for the lane change, which is then provided to a vehicle system to execute the lane change according to the lane change trajectory. By dynamically calculating the lane change trajectory (e.g., actively determining the offset), lane change trajectories may be tailored to driver preferences, including asymmetry preferences and actions for different types of curves, as well as for road and weather conditions. Doing so, may not only improve driver experience due to better emulation of their behavior but also increase safety by decreasing unsafe lane change trajectories.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2022Date of Patent: March 18, 2025Assignee: Aptiv Technologies AGInventors: Tapan R. Patent number: 12139215Abstract: Aspects of the technology involve controlling a vehicle configured to operate in an autonomous driving mode. This includes receiving a set of environmental inputs including temperature information from different temperature sources, receiving initial steering information from a steering system of the vehicle, and obtaining an initial rack position command by a motion control module of the vehicle. The system determines, based on the environmental inputs, the initial steering information and an initial rack position, a likelihood that a steering actuator of the steering system of the vehicle is blocked or likely to become blocked. The system determines whether a threshold excitation amount has been applied to the steering system within a selected amount of time or a selected driving distance. When the threshold amount of excitation is not met, an excitation profile is applied to the steering system in order to modify the initial rack position.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2022Date of Patent: November 12, 2024Assignee: Waymo LLCInventors: Justin Zaydel, Diomidis Katzourakis

Patent number: 12089910Abstract: Magnetic field has been considered as a safe and promising method for remote control of medical robots in body. Systems that implement electromagnetic coils can provide wide control bandwidth and on-off capability. However, scaling-up the working space of such systems for clinical use and increasing energy efficiency to reduce heat generation have always been a challenging task. The design, modeling and control methods for a magnetic actuation system with multiple mobile electromagnetic coils with decoupled movements are introduced. The high flexibility of such configuration and the proposed real-time control strategy enables the system to enlarge the working space by tracking the locomotion of the robot, deal with the irregularly shaped obstructions inside the working area, work with medical imaging systems for localization of the medical robots, generate various kind of magnetic field for actuation and conduct real-time optimization on coils' positions to enhance energy efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2020Date of Patent: September 17, 2024Assignee: The Chinese University of Hong KongInventors: Li Zhang, Xingzhou Du, Kai Fung Chan, Lidong Yang, Moqiu Zhang
