  • Patent number: 11273625
Abstract: Methods for forming multi-layer substrates including top and bottom surface layers and a melt softened thermoplastic material layer between the exterior surface layers, where the thermoplastic material includes polyethylene or has a tan delta value of 0.2 to 0.4 within the temperature range of 100° F.?350° F. The 3 (or more) layers are assembled, and heated, melt softening the thermoplastic material, causing bonding of the thermoplastic layer to the exterior surface layers. A cleaning composition may be loaded onto the multi-layer substrate, where a fluid pathway through the melted thermoplastic material allows the cleaning composition to travel between the surface layers. Adhesion between the surface layers and the thermoplastic layer is provided by the thermoplastic material itself, which bonds to groups of fibers in the surface layers. The process does not require chemical adhesives, any processing water, drying, or the like, so as to be possible with low capital investment.

  • Patent number: 11274399
Abstract: The present invention is directed to products, such as paper and paperboard products, comprising a substrate containing cellulose and top ply comprising microfibrillated cellulose and inorganic particulate, to methods of making such paper and paperboard products, and associated uses of such paper and paperboard products. The microfibrillated cellulose and inorganic particulate material are applied at the stage when the wet substrate is in the process of being formed on the wire of a papermaking machine, thereby avoiding the additional cost of more extensive equipment and machinery as well as in separate drying of a coating. The microfibrillated cellulose facilitates the application of inorganic particulate onto the surface of a wet paper or paperboard substrate when applied thusly, by trapping the inorganic particulate on the surface of the substrate and by giving the composite sufficient strength and a suitable pore structure to make it suitable for printing and other end-use demands.

  • Patent number: 11268242
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of transferring a tissue web with residual moisture to a Yankee cylinder and final removal of the dried tissue web from the Yankee cylinder using a doctor blade and collecting the dried web on a reel-up machine forming a tissue reel. The invention also relates to the Yankee adhesive composition per se. The method involves preparation of a water solution of a Yankee adhesive composition with less than 10% final solids content to be applied on the surface of the Yankee cylinder ahead of transferring the tissue web with residual moisture to the Yankee cylinder. The inventive method applies an aqueous PVOH solution with a very high molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol as a part of the solid content of the Yankee adhesive in an amount ranging from 20-65% of the final solids content of the Yankee adhesive. The aqueous PVOH solution with the very high molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol establish a viscosity ranging from 90 cP to 300 cP.
